Seven Layer Magic Bars?
By: Rho Date: May 31, 2023, 9:01 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
You know----- the bars also known as 'Crack'?
1 1/2 cup graham cracker crumbs
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 (14 oz.) can Eagle Brand® Sweetened Condensed Milk
1 cup (6 oz.) butterscotch-flavored chips
1 cup (6 oz. pkg.) semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 1/3 cup flaked coconut
1 cup chopped nuts
What do you think about switching the chocolate chips for white
chocolate chips because a friend doesn't eat chocolate?

I don’t know this recipe, but white chocolate is chocolate, so
what makes you think that your friend would eat them? Or could
safely eat them, if their not eating chocolate is on account of
an intolerance? I don’t think you should contemplate making them
anything containing white chocolate unless you are 100% sure
that it is excluded from their dislike or intolerance, whichever
it is.
Also, have you considered using carob chips instead? Carob is
the standard substitute for ordinary chocolate, and taste-wise
is rather closer to it.

If it's just that they don't like chocolate, then yes you can
switch them out for white chocolate. Just use a bit less since
they are very sweet. I've also used Heath Toffee Bits for the
chocolate chips since there is just a bit of chocolate in those.
These were always a favorite to sell at those HS bake sales. Now
I want Magic Bars!

Chocolate and white chocolate taste completely different to me
so I think you can substitute. That sounds good.
What's the rest of the recipe? Does it need to be baked?

Ingredients
1 1/2 cup graham cracker crumbs
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 (14 oz.) can Eagle Brand® Sweetened Condensed Milk
1 cup (6 oz.) butterscotch-flavored chips
1 cup (6 oz. pkg.) semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 1/3 cup flaked coconut
1 cup chopped nuts
Instructions
HEAT oven 350°F. Spray 13 x 9-inch baking pan with no-stick
cooking spray.
COMBINE graham cracker crumbs and butter; mix well. Press crumb
mixture firmly into bottom of prepared pan. Pour sweetened
condensed milk evenly over crumb mixture. Layer evenly with
remaining ingredients; press down firmly with fork.
BAKE 25 to 30 minutes or until lightly browned. Loosen from
sides of pan while still warm; cool on wire rack. Cut into bars
or diamonds.
For perfectly cut cookie bars, line entire pan with foil,
extending foil over edge of pan. Coat lightly with no-stick
cooking spray. After bars have baked and cooled, lift up by
edges of foil to remove from pan. Cut into individual bars.
Somewhere along the line I was told white chocolate was not made
from chocolate but was a type of candy melt. I forgot about
carob chips. Health Toffee chips sound yummy too.

If so, you were lied to. White chocolate is made from cocoa
butter with the cocoa solids removed and replaced by milk
solids. Anyone who has a bad reaction to chocolate in general
will probably not be able to eat white chocolate.

Thanks for the recipe. It doesn't sound complicated so that even
I can make it, LOL.
Maybe I'll try making both chocolate and white chocolate. Taste
testing is a tough job but somebody got to do it ;)

I'd be throwing salted caramel chips in, in place of the
butterscotch chips.

Peanut butter chips are an option.
And now I'm really wanting those bars.

Today I did in depth research---in the baking aisle of grocery
store.
White baking chips have no chocolate. Heath Toffee Bits do.
Peanut Butter chips are rare.
Methinks I will make this recipe with the only white ingredient
being coconut but wait until Friend is not around.
