answering emails
By: vintagegal Date: May 18, 2023, 12:58 pm

I'm acquiring a financial product and dealing with my
representative at a financial company. After completing the
application and getting confirmation online, there was no
further communication for a week or so. So I emailed the rep
last Friday, after work hours, to ask what was going on. Finally
after calling the company yesterday (Wed.) and getting someone
to "prod" them, they called to update me. "Oh yeah, I was going
to get back to you..." Well, how was I meant to know that? Is
it too much to ask that someone answer an email in a timely
manner, even if just to say, "Got your message, I will get back
to you next week." Or am I being too fussy?
Also this person's email address is like "johnsmithteam@" so
I assume they have someone else helping them.

I would be wary of this company if this is the way they start
business with a new customer.

oh, it's a very large, well established company. Just not
thrilled with this rep they stuck me with.

It was bad form not to email you immediately. The casual no big
deal response was worse. Perhaps you could request a different
rep who has the same business ethics as you. I think that's the
phrase. And you will not be contributing to his wages.

I agree. If you want to stay with the same company, I'd shift to
a different rep. Like Rho, I think the response to your
follow-up was worse than not replying in the first place. If
this is how the interaction is beginning, it's not going to get
better, only worse.

I don't know the specifics of your situation, but my financial
advisor makes commission off of my money. You better bet that he
(or one of his assistants) get back in touch with me. If you are
not satisfied with this rep, then I would be requesting a new
one.
I personally reply to all messages within one business day (even
if it's "I'm working on this and will get back in touch when I
have the answer".) I try to give other people a week to get back
to me, although certain things require a quicker response, so I
anticipate that.

Absolutely request a different rep. Keep your emails as proof
of "lack of response" and "lack of professionalism".
Be warned that the company will make this as difficult as
possible and be prepared to take your money and leave. I don't
know where you are in the process, but if it's not finished, do
not move forward until you are switched to someone more
professional.
I doesn't matter if you have $1 or $1,000,000, you should never
deal with someone who won't take you seriously.

I agree about asking for a new rep. Is it possible this is an
independent agent? type service? For instance, with some
insurance services you may be dealing with an independent agent
instead of a corporate employee. The use of the johnsmithteam@
would make me feel like it is an independent agent. You could
ask to be referred to a different agency that might give better
service.
