       At my job once, they decided we had to have our cubicle desks in
       the open office arranged a certain way, with specific
       accessories, and could only use X pens. It made the news. It was
       ridiculous.
       I once asked for a file sorter, and they said it wasn't on the
       approved list, so I said I'd buy it myself, and the response
       was, "it's not about the money, it's about the aesthetics." I
       was like, I'm in an office off to the side, nobody sees it, and
       your proposed solutions won't be as effective and my desk will
       be messier..
       I don't know that they cared about images, though. If someone
       had put something up that was offensive, they would have.
       But in all the 10 or so places I've worked, I've never been
       aware of an official rule.
