Does this look safe to make?

My daughter who teaches foods & nutrition to Middle Schoolers
asked MY opinion on this recipe:
Refrigerator Pickles
Slice your cucumbers as desired.
Whisk together a basic brine made of water, vinegar and
seasonings.
Pack the cucumbers into a jar, add some dill and garlic, and
pour the brine over it all.
Refrigerate until the pickles taste sufficiently “pickled!”
She plans to give each student their own jar to keep in a
refrigerator at school
for two weeks.
It feel s like a trick question tome as I can see nothing wrong
healthwise with it--much safer than canning.

Sounds absolutely fine to me, with the one caveat that if it
takes more than a few hours for your cucumbers to ‘taste
pickled’, there’s not enough vinegar in your mix to fulfil the
preservation function of pickling, and what you’ve got in your
jar is basically cut cucumbers in an oil-free salad dressing:
and of course you shouldn’t expect anything like that to keep
more than a few days. If it’s mostly vinegar with just a smidgen
of water, it should be fine.
- And of course she needs to sterilise the jars first. Actually
a good strong vinegar pickle should see off any bacteria lurking
inside the jars, but better safe than sorry. Also it’s an
important learning point for her pupils, that if you just ladle
foods into random old jars you should expect the food to grow
fur. (An excellent tip I learned only recently is that you can
sterilise jars just by washing them and putting them into the
microwave still dripping wet, and giving them 60 seconds on full
power. Much easier than all that standing them in a pan half
full of water in the oven business, and also it means that when
jarring cooked preserves such as jam you can synchronise your
sterilisation so that you can fill hot jars with hot jam and put
lids on them straight away, thus minimising bacteria.)

Yes, completely safe as long as the jars are sterilized prior to
use. I find that after 48 hours, the pickles are sufficiently
pickled but will improve on flavor. She also needs to make sure
the kids know to tightly seal the jars after opening each time.
If sealed, the pickles will easily last 4 weeks refrigerated.
She could also take in some other vegetables for them to pickle
like carrots or green beans.
