Your DH agreed to 'host' the dog. It is now his problem to deal
with.
That's the plan. If the dog howls the whole time, they can go
back to the house and sit with him. The cats can retreat
somewhere the dog is not.
For the first 3 years of our beagle's life, he was kennel
trained. Which meant that he would sleep in his kennel at night.
My husband worked from home so he wasn't kenneled during the day
but if we left the house, he was in his kennel for up to 3 hours
at a time. He was fine. Even when we were home, he'd often go
into it to sleep instead of going onto his dog bed. If they are
bringing a kennel, they've probably kennel trained him.
We had also crate trained The Beagle from the time he was a
puppy. Fair warning...beagles are highly intelligent and clever
dogs. Once ours figured out how to open the kennel door it was
pointless to use it any more. Fortunately, by that time he was
completely house broken and didn't chew random things any more.
When did expecting that your dogs would be accommodated
everywhere you travel become a thing?
It's entitlement. It's a life view that you get to inflict your
issues and your problems on other people It's not just travel
or overnight visits. The problem is everywhere. They are taking
their dogs into stores, restaurants, and one Sunday I saw a man
at Mass with a frou frou dog. I'm a dog owner and dog lover, and
I find this annoying. Dogs shed, and other people shouldn't have
to deal with dog fur and dander in restaurants and stores.
Because I own a dog, I've missed events, left early, or gotten
someone to watch my dog. It works great.
In the United States it's illegal in most, if not all, states to
bring a NON-Service animal into anyplace selling food
(restaurants, supermarkets, food courts, etc.). I believe it's
up to each hotel whether or not they wish to accommodate pets in
NON RESTAURANT areas.
The exception, of course is if this is a REAL Service animal
(Emotional Support pets do not qualify under ADA and state
health laws). I believe that even if the venue does not allow
dogs, cats, pets in general, accommodation still has to be made
for a REAL Service Dog. Examples would be not only Seeing Eye
dogs, but dogs trained to help a disabled person's mobility,
dogs trained to calm a person with medically diagnosed PTSD,
dogs trained to warn someone who has seizures.)
