A good friend of mine teamed her lovely off-the-shoulder
ankle-length white wedding dress with silver high-top trainers.
She looked terrific, and was able to dance the evening away on
the grass in comfort!

That reminds me of Father of the Bride with Steve Martin where
the bride wore white lace covered sneakers/trainers. I thought
of doing that when I get married [emoji41]. Alas, I never
married.

Fireside formal? I'd be wearing my son's "formal" boy scout
clothes.

Too funny!!! If these illustrations were included in
invitations, I would know for sure that it wasn't the party for
me... or maybe I would be all in!!! ;D

Agree! I could get behind come as you are - I'm wearing a Target
dress with fleece lined leggings and wool socks right now. I'm
business on top and comfy and warm on the bottom.

I remember when I was growing up, this group at church had a
"come as you are" party in which the people were called on a
random day/time and were supposed to come to the party dressed
as they had been when they received the call (just home from
work in suit and tie? someone else in gardening grubbies? at the
beauty salon with hair in curlers?). I don't remember too much
more about that, but I'd just totally make up "yeah, I happened
to be wearing this" and wear whatever I actually wanted to.

Come as you are? I'm out. I worked from home today and did not
manage to get out of my PJ's... or even shower!!!

IME creative dress codes mean people end up calling the
bride/groom/their families to find out what on earth "Fancy
Fireside" or whatever means in reality, so they could just save
time by using something that people can at least google for.

We just got an invitation to a party for my husband’s work. It’s
a replacement Christmas party to make up for COVID
cancellations. The dress code is “Classy Casual”.
The weird thing is, I have the perfect outfit!
