       Wearing a hat indoors
By: KaosP Date: March 23, 2022, 11:15 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
WARNING: some may find this squicky. It's not that graphic but
wanted to warn people just in case!
I have some kind of weird bug bite that I had an allergic
reaction to **in the middle of my forehead** (just my luck).
It's healing nicely, but it's still a bit red and has a
       bug-bite-type scab.
This Saturday I'm going to "afternoon tea" with my Mom and my
       sister.
If my forehead isn't cleared up by Saturday can I wear a hat
indoors at the restaurant? Are hats at restaurants considered
rude?? (the hat is cute, it's not a baseball cap or something)
I don't think it'll be cleared up by then for concealer to hide
       it, but I'll probably try!
(if only bangs could be cut for a day and then grow back out...)

My understanding (and googling) is that it's acceptable for
women to wear nice hats in restaurants.

Women are allowed to wear their hats indoors. They are not
expected to remove them during the playing/singing of the
       National Anthem.
However, the rule is specific to "fashion" hats and does
       prohibit ballcaps and work hats.
When I had a large cyst removed from my head that left me with a
shaved portion with prominent stitches, I found a couple of
"nicer" hats that I wore. I actually was scolded about wearing
one in a restaurant, but assured the woman that I would be glad
to remove the hat, but the wound and the stitches were far more
       offensive. She caved.

My understanding was that women's fashion hats were allowed to
be worn indoors. However, if you are concerned, would a scarf or
headband of some sorts help to cover your forehead?

This. Yes, it’s legit good manners to wear a ‘feminine’ hat at a
restaurant, just not something many people do. But not everyone
(cf oogyda’s critic) knows the details of the rule: so if you
don’t want to be called out by the ignorant, you might want to
go with a head wrap, low-tied scarf, or some such. Not even the
most dogmatic “no hats indoors, no exceptions!” person is going
to demand you take something like that off.

I've been thinking about this thread and while hats are not
currently common for your average restaurants, hats are all I'm
picturing for afternoon tea. Like what you see in the movies or
       pictures of royalty.
I say to go all out with a nice outfit and cute hat.

The correct etiquette is that ladies can wear a hat inside as it
considered part of their ensemble. A gentleman's hat is
considered outdoors wear the same as a coat for example.
I've just been listening to a podcast that addressed this very
       question! ;D

I was going to suggest clip in bangs also. You could pick them
up at any beauty supply store.
To your question, a cute hat that matches your outfit would be
considered appropriate for tea and no one should bat an eye at
       it.
       Have a lovely tea!

Thank you all for the responses! I trust all of your opinions
       more than Google :)
The clip-in fringe is a cute idea, thanks. I'm going to look at
       scarf options as well.
The hat I'm thinking of wearing is a newsboy cap with a
       houndstooth pattern - I think it'll be afternoon-tea-appropriate
       enough.
I'm still holding out hope that my forehead will be healed
enough to just cover it with make-up!
