If I have even mild salsa I have to immediately brush my teeth
because it feels like my mouth is on fire.

Capsaicin is fat-soluble, not water-soluble. Try drinking a bit
of whole milk or eating a few bites of buttered bread.

I read about eating bread in a novel in the 80's. I don't really
eat spicy foods but must have kept that fact in the back of my
head all these decades just in case. LOL

I can tolerate mild to medium Mexican and Thai food. But
curries? Not a chance. I'm not sure which of the curry spices
it is but one of them seems to bind to my taste buds and stay
there for days.
I started making my own salsa and I will hate the day I have to
go back to grocery store salsa. I can vary the chunkiness, I
can vary the heat, I can vary the type of tomato used and I can
leave out the cilantro! I wasn't sure if I was one of the ones
who tasted soap so I bought a bunch when I was about to make my
first batch. I tasted it and realized that it was soapy tasting
for me before I added it to the batch. I have people who love
my salsa so I wonder if they are cilantro soap tasters, too, and
just don't know it. One buddy uses my salsa when he makes
meatloaf, in place of ketchup, to give it some oomph.

I would also point out that not everyone likes the same food. I
strongly dislike food with sauce or butter or oil or grease in
or on it. I don’t want the calories and fat and I don’t like the
taste. I would rather have raw vegetables and uncooked fresh
food without sauce. So many times when I am served what many
people consider a well cooked meal I am not enjoying it at all.
Not everyone shares the same tastes.

That isn't the issue here, though. The OP's friend wasn't
serving fresh, clean tasting food like salad or grilled meat
with steamed veg (which I agree can be enjoyable) She was
serving mushy pasta (bleugh) and greasy mince, and undercooked
sausages. The latter is an issue of food safety, not of taste.

Ironically, if Carrie had just cooked the mince for longer, it
would have been less greasy (as all the liquid would have
evaporated)!
The sausages were just on the right side of "safe to eat", to be
fair. But personally I would have cooked them for a few more
minutes at least - if nothing else, to make the skin nice and
crispy.
