I really wanted to get a short or midi dress, but they just told
me that they’d prefer long; the wedding is getting more formal
(they are now talking about “black tie preferred,” although I
would just say “black tie” then). My mother will wear pants and
a dressy jacket. No other moms or grandmothers and only sister
is my daughter. I really don’t want a third gown in my closet!
They will say I can wear the one I wore to my daughter’s
wedding, but I think that might make them feel bad, like I don’t
think this wedding is as important as the others. (It’s
especially sensitive now due to the very recent sudden death of
his first wife, which I’ve posted about in “Hugs, Please.” It
makes it feel so frivolous to even think about wedding stuff.
       Well, anyway …)
But I may be able to pull off a midi or high-low, because at
5’0” they would be ankle length on me anyway and I would’ve had
to get them shortened. So maybe I can find one that would work
that I can shorten later. Shortening most full length gowns to
cocktail length doesn’t usually work very well.
They have the venue (including food) and officiant and have
almost buttoned down the music. Not sure about photographer or
florist. The bride is very efficient and organized, so it’s
easy to resist butting in and reminding them.

Tea-length (above the ankle) dresses are very elegant and will
       suit for black-tie outfit.

Well, lowspark, you live in Houston. Surely you must be friends
with the folks at N-M and can get a 95% discount!

You can really only control what you wear and even that may need
to be approved by the bride. I suggest you back slowly out of
ANY planning of this wedding and leave it up to the bride and
groom. You are just a guest. By the way, why would you pay
anything on a second wedding. Etiquette says that is entirely up
       to the bride and groom.

I'll see what I can do. I'm pretty close with Marcus but Neiman
and I don't really get along that well.

       I found a dress!
  HTML https://modesens.com/product/eliza-j-sleeveless-side-tuck-ruffle-gown-navy-31734567/
       In navy blue.
I wish it looked on me like it does on that tall young model.
:) I will have to have the shoulders taken up a bit, have it
shortened by, like, a foot, and probably that side ruffle a bit
too. Other than that it fits great and is very comfortable.
And it absolutely does not wrinkle - it’s that odd “scuba”
       fabric.
And hot pink pumps. Yes. The personal shopper suggested them,
and my daughter and fashion-savvy friend agreed, so there we
are. My daughter got them for me for mothers day and my
       upcoming big birthday.
They won’t show most of the time anyway.
       Thanks for “shopping” with me!

Save the foot of taken up fabric and have it turned into either
       a shrug or a shawl.
With hot pink pumps you need to wear your pink diamond earrings.
The dress is mother-of-the-groom worthy and you will rock it
just as well as that model.

       Aw, thanks!
Super idea about using the extra fabric.
I seem to have mislaid my pink diamond earrings, so I will need
       to borrow yours. :)
