What Thanksgiving foods do you love?

I'm a traditionalist (except I don't like turkey). I like to
have chicken in gravy, mashed potatoes, broccoli in cheese onion
sauce, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie for dessert.
It's just not Thanksgiving without them, and if I am invited
elsewhere for Thanksgiving dinner I will still make these foods
at home to enjoy afterwards. And, of course, there's yummy left
overs! What are your go-to Thanksgiving foods?

I have pretty much stopped eating meat (used to love dark meat
turkey) but the last few years I made myself a meal of stuffing,
mash potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, and vegs, just for me.
Then I found out how much sodium is in it, wow. So I will be
having something else this year, I guess.
I used to love scraping the last bits of stuffing out from
between the ribs on the turkey carcass. Nothing got wasted.

I gotta say, I love them all. I love turkey - prepared just
about any way.
Stuffing/Dressing. [glow=green,2,300]✔[/glow]
Gravy. [glow=green,2,300]✔[/glow]
Mashed potatoes. [glow=green,2,300]✔[/glow]
Sweet potatoes. [glow=green,2,300]✔[/glow]
Broccoli. [glow=green,2,300]✔[/glow]
Brussels Sprouts. [glow=green,2,300]✔[/glow]
Cranberry sauce. Yes, even the jelled kind that takes the shape
of the can. [glow=green,2,300]✔[/glow]
Green bean casserole. Not my first choice, but heck, if it's
being served, I'll eat it! [glow=green,2,300]✔[/glow]
Pie. Pumpkin, apple, cherry, pecan. Pecan!

We're having a TG lunch tomorrow at work, and I'm hosting a
Friendsgiving dinner this Friday and will be serving a smoked
turkey. So I'm going to get my TG early. On the actual day, I'm
going to just be hanging out with my son, who's a vegetarian,
and a couple of friends so we're just going to graze on snacky
things the whole day and forgo the big dinner.

Mr. Pons and I will be having our Tday alone so we won’t have a
Turkey. We will roast a chicken and have stuffing with gravy.
Our vegetable will be string beans sautéed with garlic and oil.
A piece of Junior’s cheesecake will complete the meal.

I love turkey but only the white meat, mashed potatoes with
turkey gravy, sweet potatoes, fresh corn that we froze after
buying it this summer, BeagleBoy's green beans with bacon, my
mom's homemade bread, and pumpkin pie with real whipped cream
(not the stuff that fizzes out of a can).
I love cranberry sauce but I only like the jellied kind that
keeps the shape of the can. ;D

One of my favorite childhood memories of Thanksgiving is the
cranberry sauce out of the can. My father would slice it with a
knife and we would get to eat the "rounds."

When I was a child there were holiday dishes that were a given
even if they made no sense or few if any family members liked
them.
Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter dinners always began with a
glass of tomato juice and a relish tray. For some reason,
although we drank orange, apple and grape juice on a regular
basis, tomato juice was considered something to be reserved for
holidays. The relish tray consisted of celery stalks, olives,
radishes and pickle slices. It was an odd way to start a meal
but, thinking back on it, the relish tray was always present
when we went to the Cedar Inn for my parent’s anniversary
dinner.
Also present was the notorious jello salad. this was composed
of carrots, shredded cabbage and celery embalmed in a mixture of
lime and lemon jello. We ate it although I don’t know why.
There were also creamed onions. These were canned pearl onions
served in my Mom’s creamed sauce. I liked the sauce mixed in
with gravy on my mashed potatoes. The onions were less
appealing. We were also treated to my Grandfather’s favorite
stuffing. This was a very strange creation I have never
encountered elsewhere. It was made with mashed potatoes,
sautéed onions, raisins and caraway seeds. Nobody ever ate any
of it after Grandpa died but a portion was always made in his
memory.
Finally, we come to the mince pie. Nobody liked the thing but
it was’t a proper Thanksgiving without one.

I married into a Yugoslavian family (pretty much culinarily
Italian), and the other Midwestern "immigrant" bride in the
family and I were surprised to discover we missed the side
dishes they didn't serve.
No sweet potatoes. No mashed potatoes and gravy. No cranberries.
They had stuffing, but it was weird (which I didn't mind,
because I do not like stuffing at all).
Instead they had pasta as a first course, and stuffed cabbage.
So we ended up being the ones to bring those.

We usually spent Thanksgiving with my Dad's family. They had all
the traditional stuff. My aunt had it catered. My mother's side
of the family are Greek. When we spent Thanksgiving with them we
had the traditional stuff, plus roast beef for those who didn't
like turkey, and a couple of traditional Greek foods like home
made spanikopita.
I usually make one of those turkey breasts with skin that you
can stuff. Because to me, Thanksgiving dinner means turkey (with
skin) stuffing (or dressing) and gravy...and anything else you
have a whim for. This year is the first year I probably won't do
it. Too many other projects I have to accomplish before the
winter holiday.

Never liked cranberry sauce, but love a cranberry/orange relish
a local supermarket used to make. I say used to as last year I
was so looking forward to it - and they changed the recipe! It
was kinda bland and watery. So sadly that's over with but I
might try making a few online recipes I found.
My brother is insistent on having "can molded" cranberry sauce
on the table each thanksgiving as "It's not Thanksgiving without
it." No one likes it, so unless a guest eats some it's really
just a center piece. I hope my sister-in-law uses it for an
ingredient in her after-Thanksgiving cooking.
One Thanksgiving a bunch of friend were not going home so we did
potluck. One bought a delicious baked sweet potatoes, apple,
orange juice, and maple syrup dish. Yum! I should make that this
season as I actually have maple syrup in the house.
