Happy Halloween/Samhain to everybody!
Darn, my image won't post. It was two lighted carved pumpkins in
the darkness.

No photos to post, but I can unequivocally state that the kids I
gave candy to were uniformly polite, and didn't really need a
reminder from Mom or Dad to say Thank You (although parents were
ready to prompt good behavior).
Cute kids, clever costumes, and a heartfelt Thank You. What more
do you want?

On Friday the day care center on campus brought all the itty
bitties around in their costumes. So adorable!
One little girl was dressed as either a fairy or angel (wasn't
sure which). She had on a white tulle dress that could have
stood up on its own, sheer white wings, and sparkly gold glitter
covered shoes.
;D

We only had 1 family with 2 children come to trick-or-treat. I
felt sadder than if nobody came. I hope the 2 had a good time
anyway even without other children running around the
neighborhood.

Halloween is nowhere as big a deal over here, and
trick-or-treating in the US style (as opposed to the licensed
vandalism of 'Mischief Night' that was an old tradition up
north) is only a very recent import, so many householders don't
even think about preparing supplies of treats. There was a
charming letter in my paper today from a lady who heard the
doorbell ring on Saturday evening, and opened it to find one
small female ghoul, maybe 9 years old, standing there holding a
bowl. Caught on the hop, she said 'I'm so sorry! I haven't got
any sweets at all!' The small blood-splattered face creased; “Oh
. . .' and she held out her bowl saying '“Would you like some of
mine?”

Thanks for that information, Aleko. I've seen things about trick
or treat in the UK this year and was wondering about that.
I've lived in the same apartment complex (in Los Angeles) for 30
years and have never had a single trick or treater here, even
when kids lived in the building.
