Re: Why though? Dog edition.

I don't mind if people's dogs pee on the edge of my lawn, poop
would really bug me. The thing is, it almost never happens in my
neighborhood. Maybe because, like me, a most dog owners have
their back yards fenced in. I always take a bag with me when I
walk my dog, but I think I've only used it twice in 10 years.
She seems to only want to do her business in our back yard.

I'm not a dog owner but no, if I had a dog I would not allow it
to single out someone's mailbox or lawn. In fact I don't like
dogs going on peoples' lawns period.
It's still messy and destructive. I'm not a "you kids get off
my lawn" kind of cranky old fart but come on. There's got to be
other places for dog owners to take them.

Thanks for all the replies and ideas! I think it comes down to I
will likely just continue to be irritated by this without taking
specific action. We intend to live here at least another six
years until my daughter graduates high school, and I don’t want
to add to any tension in the neighborhood. I may try some of the
ideas to deter dogs “liking” our property though! And maybe I
will “feel like heading outside” when I see Spot or other
offenders approaching!

I use a bag almost every walk, thanks to one dog who really
likes to do his business in the middle of the damn road! Good
job it's a quiet neighbourhood.

Yeah I like the "head outside" option so at the very least they
know you know.
Maybe they have a big pair of chestnuts and it won't faze them
but just maybe it will fluster them a bit to be busted.

At our previous house we had a problem of some people letting
their dogs poop on our lawn. I would find it when I mowed. I
knew is was not neighbors on our street, but never saw the
people with the dogs. I purchased a can of black pepper and
spread it over the the first three feet of the lawn. Any dog
sniffing to find a spot to do their business would get a nose
full of pepper. This solved the problem.

I've always wondered if that sort of thing worked It's good to
hear from someone who used it.
And welcome!

I wish my dog was like this but every walk is 3 poop bags. I
don't have a set time of day that we walk the dog. We usually
let the dog out into the backyard first thing in the morning. If
I take him to walk early, he still wants to stop at the end of
our driveway and pee. Then we get around the corner and poops in
a our friends yard. Then at the next stop sign about 6 houses
down, his second poop, and then when we are almost back to the
house, his third. If I don't take him till late afternoon, it is
still the same pattern. If I take him different directions, it
is still the same amount of walking time for the 3 poops. I've
even waited till I saw him poop in the backyard and then took
him walking and it is the same.
