Re: utilizing/sharing neighbor hiring tree cutters

This is just one more reminder of how much things can vary
according to where one lives.
At our previous house, we had a huge tree cut down and the wood
cut into 18 or 24 inch lengths. We didn't have a fireplace, so
we posted a "Free firewood- you haul it" ad in the local online
newspaper/trader and had a response within 20 minutes and it was
gone that evening.
I knew our next door neighbors didn't need it since they had
plenty of wood from their own tree that came down in a
hurricane. They were a little surprised that 6 neighbors had
chainsaws and were right over to help.
At our current location, there is a utility pole at the corner
of our property. Some "authority" is charged with clearing
brush from around the poles. They must clear 3 (4?) feet around
the pole, but absolutely would not clear any further than that.
Thus, they left a patch of small 1-3 inch diameter trees. They
assured me, however that the crew coming along behind them would
not know that, so if those trees ended up in the pile with the
others, they'd get sent through the chipper as well. I made
sure the cut ends were pointing in the same direction as the
ones they did.
