Re: Acknowledging someone's ill fortune rude?

I can’t think of a way to say this that comes across well. It’s
not something I would say. I would probably think the person
saying it was just being awkward or a bit socially inept.
But agree people are out of practice with interacting.

My sister told me this one - she’s a driver for an Uber-like
company. She picked up this passenger, who proceeds to tell
her how hard life’s been for him since Covid (lost his job,
family members ill, etc.). Sis sympathized with him, and told
him that everyone’s had it fought this past year, including her.
He tells her, “I don’t give a flying f*** about your problems.”
She pulled over and told him to get out of her car. He had the
nerve to be surprised.

Good for her! I hope he didn't retaliate by leaving her a
one-star rating though.

Good point. But at least she could also give him a poor review,
too.

Oh, she reported him because of the “profanity.” Now, my sister
isn’t a prude, but his rudeness while trying to get her to be
his chauffeur (he wanted her make other stops on the way to his
destination), just got under her skin.
