Not a fan of Ms at all, the title and the disease.
If I get called Ms I'll correct them politely, if they do it
again, not so politely. Call me Miss or Mrs it doesn't bother me
       but I've never liked Ms.

Very interesting - I'm just the opposite. I only like to be Ms.

I assume you mean that you tell them that it’s your preference,
not that you “correct” them. It’s perfectly fine to state your
preference and to expect people to honor it. But they weren’t
“incorrect” to have used Ms. before you did.

       Fair point.

I'm probably showing my age (or something), but I do like Mrs. I
didn't marry until I was 38, and I was so happy to shuck my
maiden name that most people mangled! I'm very proud to be Mrs.
Chigger Smith. I don't think I would be proud to be Mrs. my
       husbands name Smith.

I don't mind being referred to as Mrs in a social context. I'm
probably showing my age but when I started working in the mid
80's there was still a bit of judgement on marital status by
some of the old guard. If you were Mrs you should be home taking
care of kids and husband. If a Miss then you were just working
till you obtained your Mrs. In college I heard the joke about
some women only being there to get their MRS too many time.
I am glad that we have finally arrived at the point that from
Mrs with myFN marriedlastname is an appropriate form of address.
For so long that was only for divorced women who didn't want to
return to their maiden name or widows.

Yes! I think we are probably close to the same age and I
remember when Miss=waiting to be married, and Mrs. First Name
Last Name= divorced or should be home taking care of husband and
kids! If you used Ms., you were a *gasp* feminist! Couldn't win
for losing. I am 55, FWIW.

And there it is -- great illustrations of why the whole idea of
having different honorifics for married and single women is so
screwed up. Men never had to put up with that, and they still
don't. "Mr." doesn't raise any such connotations -- it says
nothing about the guy at all and doesn't allow for any
assumptions about what he is waiting for or should be doing.
And that was the whole point of using Ms. for women rather than
requiring them to advertise their marital status.

Yes, that was the whole point of "Ms.", but it sure as heck did
not solve the problem, back in the day! It was yet another
       label.

Exactly -- because people refused to use it, insisting that it
was just for business. But it's much more commonly used today,
and when it is, it does indeed solve the problem.
That problem, anyway -- there is still the marking of sex (not
to mention the lack of convention for honorifics for nonbinary
people). What would you think would be a good all-purpose
honorific that doesn't announce either marital status or sex?
We have lots of specialized ones already -- Dr., Prof., Sgt.,
Sen., Rev., etc. -- and people manage with those just fine.
Seems like there should be something all-purpose for everyone
else. Have you seen (or have you used) the gender-neutral
"Mx."? Do you think that it will come into common usage? Do
       you have a better idea?
