I have on more than one occasion tried swiping my work badge to
pay for things and waived it in front of doors trying to open
them. Yeah, that doesn't work. 🤷🤣

At an old work place, in the ladies' there was a hand sanitizer
dispenser next to the door. On more than one occasion I tried to
use this to badge myself out of the bathroom.

I work with a very sweet man who is approaching 70. He asked me
to help him with our copier.
To use our copier you scan your university i.d. and then either
print your items or make copies, scan, etc.
He's showing me that he's scanning his i.d. but the copier is
telling him it doesn't exist.
When I look closer at his i.d. I say "Joe, you're trying to use
your credit card". Luckily, he thought it was just as funny.

The cashier at the grocery store kept having trouble swiping my
debit card, which was orange. Finally, I said I'd just use a
different card, and she handed back my Home Depot credit card.

I used my work credit card instead of my personal one at a
restaurant. I normally keep my work one at the office, but I had
to use it at a store. I didn't realize it until my statement
came. I was horrified. I didn't want my work to think I was
stealing. Our credit card manager said it happens frequently
enough and it wasn't a big deal as long as I paid the charges.

The cashier gave me the receipt. I glanced at it and put it in
my purse. Then I asked the cashier for my receipt :-[

My problem has developed because of our wonderous technology!
Many sink faucets, soap dispensers and paper towel dispensers
are now activated by simply waving your hands under the unit.
So it's very disconcerting when I have spent at least 30 seconds
waving my hands under a faucet and there's no water is coming
out, wondering if it's broken, then realizing that this sink has
a regular tap that requires me to manually turn the knob with my
hands.

I just washed my lunch dishes, then threw out my spoon and
carried the dirty paper towel I used to dry it back to my desk.
😄 Reminds me of the time I made a cup of tea, walked
over to the garbage pail, poured out my freshly-made tea, and
stood there stupidly holding my empty cup and a used tea bag.
And your tea story reminds me of straining broth (or other
things) and forgetting to put a bowl underneath, so all the
lovely broth goes down the drain.
My mom did this with turkey stock. She spent several hours
lovingly tending to a pot of super-delicious turkey broth to use
for Thanksgiving dinner gravy and soup the following day. I was
standing near her when she poured the liquid into the colander
in the sink (without a bowl underneath). We both realized what
she did at the same moment. And my mom, who NEVER curses, just
stood there and yelled "S**t!"

Once after a long day at work, I tried to use my garage door
opener to get out of the office parking garage.

A long, long ago memory just surfaced in my brain. Back when I
was just a kid of 10 or 11 in the early 50s a friend went with
me to the movies. My Dad drove us and would pick us up after
the show, in front of the theater. So when it let out we ran
outside laughing and talking and I spied our Chevy on the street
in front so we ran and I opened the back door and jumped in.
Then I noticed that the male driver was a stranger! I quickly
backed out and stammered an apology. Then we waited for my Dad
to drive up later.

I did something similar. We took the cruise around the Hawaiian
islands and rented a car each day to tour around and check
things out. The rental agencies were renting a ton of Dodge
Calibers. We went to WalMart and DH went to get the car while I
checked out. I was right at the crosswalk when a white Dodge
Caliber stopped, I assumed for me, and I was opening the door
when I heard honking and someone yelling "PVZFan DO NOT GET IN
THAT CAR! That's not me!" My DH was right behind the car in the
Dodge Caliber we'd rented. (DH still brings that up once in a
while.)

When I was in high school my parents had a red Ford Fiesta. My
junior year English teacher, who was also the football coach,
also had a red Ford Fiesta but his had a ski rack on top and a
personalized license plate.
I cannot tell you how many football games my parents went to
where Mom was trying to open Mr. Tonkin's car with her keys. It
got to the point where, when they entered the parking lot, Dad
would yell "Not the one with the ski rack!".

For awhile during high school, I drove an older yellow Dodge
pickup. A guy I knew as a friend of a friend drove an identical
pickup. Our door keys would work in both doors, but thankfully,
the ignition keys were different.
