My daughter is getting married
By: Hmmm Date: January 24, 2021, 9:14 am

DD has been with her BF for about 4 years now. They spent most
of 2020 living in separate states while he finished up law
school with the plan to marry last summer after graduation.
Covid did a number on their plans and then all of his job offers
dried up. They've known they will most likely relocate for his
job so she has continued to work part time and not take on a
full time job.
In late November, they found out he would most likely be getting
a position he wanted in the UK. But again Covid and the firm was
having a hard time figuring out whether to hire him in the
States and then transfer him later. So they've delayed making
the formal offer. He was starting to feel like that opportunity
was going to fall through too.
Monday he got a call from the senior partner saying that he is
their only candidate but they are still working through the
formal offer. On Thursday he got a call from the senior partner
saying they confirmed they would be able to get his paperwork
complete to bring him straight to the UK to start work in March.
The partner also said that while they would "help out" with
immigration papers for DD to come as a long term partner, the
relocation people said it might be difficult since they had not
been physically living together for almost 18 months. DD & BF
decided to go ahead and marry in early March in a simple
ceremony with grandparents, parents and siblings and then plan a
reception for some time in 2022.
DD will most likely need to wait a while to start working over
there but she already has some leads. I'm going to hate having
both of them living so far away but I'm very excited that things
are turning out like they wanted.
edited to fix spelling.

Congratulations to your daughter and her husband to be. It is
sooo nice to read some good news for a change. That's
wonderful that things are finally looking up for them.

that's so exciting for them!
I totally get your sadness at having them so far away.
It wasn't until I was older that I realized what a blessing it
would have been if I'd been closer to my mom and dad.
Though, my parents moved a state away from THEIR parents, at a
time when traveling was harder. They visited maybe twice a year.

Thanks, Gramma, BeagleMommy and Toots.
It's been a whirlwind of planning. We were able to reserve their
venue yesterday. They'll have an outdoor ceremony (thankfully we
live in Houston so March weather should be fine but if not, the
restaurant will create indoor space for us.), we picked out her
dress yesterday(though we have to have some of it tailored
made), reserved the minister, and got her hair and makeup person
selected. They are doing a cake tasting on Saturday and we
should have a photographer set by Tue next week. Invitations go
out on Wednesday.
The one thing I feel bad about is the ceremony site is not
accessible for my sister who is in a wheelchair so she will need
to watch from an upstairs balcony with her husband. They had
looked at 4 other places and one isn't doing events right now,
one was booked, another was just way out of the price range we
were willing to go to and the other would require us to spread
out our small group across 2 rooms during the dinner which isn't
ideal. Her fiance is going to set up a camera near the ceremony
site and live stream it to a monitor near them so that they can
hear and see better. I'm hoping her feelings aren't going to be
too hurt. But we don't have time to keep looking for sites.
We've been surprised how slow some venues have been to get back
to us. We put inquiries out to 4 other sites and have found that
if they are booked they take forever to tell us and 2 just
haven't responded at all.

We had the wedding on Saturday and it went beautifully. Though
they had planned a simple ceremony, it quickly morphed into a
full blown wedding. All the siblings, grandparents and a few
other close relatives and friends attended, so right at around
35. DD was stunning in her wedding dress and the day turned out
sunny and warm for their outdoor ceremony. All the families
really meshed. Other than my husband and son and I, none of us
had met his family but by the end of the day, there was lots of
planning to travel and visit with each other.
They are off for their honeymoon this morning and will be here
for about 3 weeks until their move to London.

London! Whereabouts? London - especially Central London - is a
huge collection of small villages; the character of the place
can change radically from one street to the next, sometimes even
halfway down a street.
