I've been known to give the same birthday card to the same
person up to 3 times.

My Mom gives the same birthday card to my brother every year.
She just writes in the year in the list of years already written
in it, and after he opens it, he gives it back to her. They've
been doing this for decades.

The year she can't find it, she's going to really hurt his
feelings.

I think there actually was a year that she couldn't find it. She
ended up giving it to him later in the year when it showed up.
My brother is a grumpy, high school science teacher. It takes a
lot to hurt my brother's feelings.

My dad used to give a Reader’s Digest subscription to me every
year. The final year he accidentally sent two, but in one he
misspelled my first name. I didn’t tell him. It wasn’t a burden
for him, so I let it go to save his self esteem for two years.
Then he passed away and I still think I did the right thing.

I also think you did the right thing. But I would add that I
wouldn't be so sure he misspelled your first name. We have
gotten magazine subscriptions with misspelled first or last
names on several occasions through the years. It may have been
an error by someone on their end. :-\

I think it's sweet in a way. It means someone knows us pretty
well to find the "perfect" gift twice.

I've bought books and DVDs for myself that I already had. Oops.
I just give away the extra copies and chuckle a bit.
[/quote]
Oh, man, I did this just recently. Since I bought both copies
within the last few months, both copies were in great shape. I
was able to use one as a trade in at a local used book store.

About 25 years ago, my brother sent me a birthday card with a
Star Trek theme. Lieutenant Worf is shown in a fierce Klingon
stance with his arms folded and the caption is, “Old age is
approaching.” Open up the card and the caption is “And
apparently YOU have decided not to fight”.
We sent that card back and forth to each other until it was
falling apart and there was no space left to write anything on
it. There was no particular reason for doing this other than my
family will beat a joke to death just to beat a joke to death.

Here's a story of 2 friends that have been sending the same card
back and forth for 60 years.
