Re: End of Year School Concert with a 'Coronavirus' Theme?

Australian here. With a kid who is about to have their end of
year Christmas concert tomorrow night.
I think it is fine. Teachers have had a rough year. Kids have
had a rough year. Australia is doing well with the Coronavirus,
and its meant to be funny.
Also the alternative Christmas concert is always little kids
singing 'Dashing through the snow' in the middle of summer,
which always makes me giggle.-***

Maybe people would like a break from Covid 19 overshadowing
everything?
I know if it were me ( in Canada where it's getting worse again
so no chance of school concerts here!) I wouldn't be offended as
such but I would be pissed off if it was the theme of a concert.
Just because it's infiltrated everything else and I would want
a respite from it.

If the general message is one of "doing what you need to do even
though we hate it", then I have no problem.
"Staying Inside" is what we should be doing.

I agree with this. I want respite from Covid. Yes, it has
overtaken everything in my life. I know that. Everywhere I
turn there is yet something more about it. I wouldn't attend a
concert about it now or ever. Surely there are better topics.

I think it's too soon. At some point, it may be funny. But for
now, I think the silly songs should be about something else.
I see no problem with doing this in a smaller setting where the
audience is well-known (like your home). I love a silly song!
But I'd be uncomfortable sitting in an auditorium if the song
was about such a recent (and still on-going) tragedy.

I love that this site makes me think. I read an issue and it
keeps coming back to my mind and I find myself arriving at a new
answer or thought!
This doesn't have to be an all or nothing answer. Why does the
entire concert have to be coronavirus themed? It sounds like it
is typically a holiday themed show, so why not stick to that and
sprinkle in a few coronavirus parodies? It is much easier to
stomach one or two songs that felt off the mark rather than an
entire concert. However, I still stand firm in the camp that
lyric content is very important.
