Re: Flowers received with no name attached - how to thank giver?

I think your facebook post is fine. For the few people who think
are in the "suspect" pool but not on FB, I might mention it
casually that you had a lovely or but anonymous surprise
delivered to you. If one of them, they could speak up and say
they didn't mean for it to be anonymous or remain silent.

That feels less likely than someone wanting to do an anonymous
good deed. Two to three things have to have happened. The floral
shop left off the names, printed the card on something that
lacked their branding, and had any other identifying information
fall off. GardenGal noted that the lack of a business name from
the florist was particularly annoying. Companies work so hard at
their branding and imaging; they probably had to dig around for
a blank card.
GardenGal, you could call various florists and run the order
number past them and see if the lack of a name was intentional.

Yep, tried that yesterday. I don't find it likely that someone
sent flowers and deliberately wanted to remain anonymous, I
think it's just a series of mistakes on the part of the florist.
I made a few calls to the major floral delivery services, no
luck, so I'm done, just can't give this any more headspace.
I'll post if I find out who they're from.
Thanks for all your suggestions, folks!

Mystery solved! Someone mentioned bringing this flower mystery
up in casual conversation, and that's what I did today when the
person I thought was most likely to have sent the flowers called
me about something else. I mentioned the lovely floral
arrangement and the mystery of the person who sent it, and she
told me it was her. We'll send her a photo later today.
Thanks again to all who had suggestions! ;D

Funny sidetrack -- Years ago my thenBoss received a delivery of
flowers to his office that had no note as to who they were from.
He was puzzled as to what to do. "Should I call my wife at thank
her?" We agreed that they probably are from his wife and he
should call.
He said "But what if they aren't from her? I thank her for
flowers and she didn't send them? Boy am I going to be up the
creek without a paddle!"
Granted, he was quite the good looking stud. He fooled around on
his ex-wife (hence the ex). He swore that he changed his ways
but he still had plenty of admirers.
The next day he came into the office and said "Boy, did I screw
up. I didn't say anything about the flowers until she asked me
if I got a delivery at work. I said 'Oh, yeah, I meant to call
you and thank you for the flowers, but things got really busy
and I forgot.'" Then he added "Yesterday was our six month
anniversary. I totally forgot that too."
Yeah, he was up the creek.

I was in a similar dilemma when I first started dating my now
husband. A lovely arrangement of a dozen red roses (it was
unusual in that the roses were short stemmed and in a large
square short glass vase - clearly from a florist and not an
amateur arrangement) was delivered to my door by a young woman
who would not tell me who she was or who the flowers were from.
It was quite strange, but she told me to read the card. The card
had my name misspelled on the outside and inside said some nice
things about me signed by a "secret admirer." I had the same
concerns your boss did - should I thank my boyfriend for the
roses? But what if they WEREN'T from him?
In the end, the next time he came to my house, which was maybe
the next day, I said something like, "Boyfriend, look at these
gorgeous roses that were delievered last night! Are they from
you?" He is not the jealous type, thank goodness, and said,
"Wow! Those really are pretty. I wish they had been from me, but
they are not." He didn't get mad, he just kinda shrugged it off
as, "I imagine you have lots of secret admirers! Let me know if
you solve the mystery."
I still have no idea who sent the roses!

Did the person who sent it say if it was an error on the part of
the florist or in she intended for it to be anonymous?

That reminds me of a story I heard Andy Richter tell on Conan
O'Brien's show. Richter being a sometimes actor and Conan's
"sidekick". He'd gotten a small role in the Richard Gere movie
Dr. T And The Women. He played the role of a good friend of
Richard Gere's character. It was also one of the last movies
actress Farrah Fawcett was in. A lot of the movie was shot on
location in Texas so Richter had to take time off from Conan
O'Brien's talk show for a few months. When he returned, he told
the story of one day getting some flowers delivered to him at
the hotel room he was staying in. I don't remember exactly but
he said the card had written on it some stuff like you're a
terrific man and you're great and so on, and he said it was
signed "Love Farrah". He was flattered but thought it was kind
of strange the actress would send him flowers with a note. Later
that day he then gets a telephone call from his wife and she
asked if he'd gotten the flowers she'd sent him. Yeah the
flowers were from Richter's wife, and not Farrah Fawcett. The
confusion happened because his wife's name is Sarah and not
Farrah. Although how he could mistake Sarah for Farrah I'm not
sure. It must've been some really sloppy handwriting is all I
can figure! Since Sarah has only one R and the name Farrah has
two Rs in it and I don't know how you could mistake an S for an
F either.

My guess is the florist who took the order misunderstood the
name on the phone and filled in what made sense to her/him if he
knew Andy Richter was working with Farrah Fawcett at the time.

I did this to someone last month lol. My friend’s dog is going
though treatment for heartworm and I sent her a basket of dog
cookies but apparently the sender info wasn’t included in the
delivery as the company indicated it would be. I was scrolling
Facebook when I saw a video of the dog enjoying the treats. I
commented saying “So glad she likes them!” And had a text within
minutes asking if it was from me because they’d arrived with no
explanation hehe Now I tell people when I send them things
rather than surprising them.
