They simply microwaved the half-eaten burger? No, no way is that
acceptable. A whole new sandwich was the only way to go.

I totally agree. TOTALLY. That was lazy and cheap of them.

Should have made her an entirely new meal, and i wouldn't go
back to that place. They clearly have no idea about food
       safety.

If Rita is reluctant to act - I'd leave poor reviews online.
This is a food safety issue and an instance where it's necessary
to inform others. The restaurant had a chance to make it right,
       they didn't.
I've done reviews and mentioned others in my party and their
experience. I have one review where I said (paraphrasing) "We
were with a party of eight, three people had orders that were
wrong. They were all from the breakfast menu and eventually
corrected, but I'd advise against BFD. The evening cooks don't
seem to have a sufficient grasp of the breakfast menu."

Oh this reminds me of a company dinner from years ago. They took
us all out for a celebratory meal at a fairly pricey restaurant.
I'm sitting next to the 6'4", super-shy new guy. He'd just been
hired a few days before this dinner and was sitting between me
and the CEO at the table. The lights in the restaurant are very,
very low, with those tiny useless candles every few inches.
The new guy orders chicken something or other and after eating a
few bites he quietly asks me if it looks alright to me. I look
over in the near-night conditions and see pink liquid seeping
out of the chicken. "You shouldn't eat that!" I tell him
quietly, but earnestly. Not quietly enough, because the CEO on
his other side hears and says "Is everything okay?"
Before I can say anything, the new guy smiles and says "yes,
everything's great!" and he cuts a big piece of chicken and puts
it into his mouth. The CEO turns away and I suggest he spits out
the bite he took and tell the waitress. But he just. won't.
complain. Worst of all, he wouldn't let me say anything about it
either because the servers were busy with our rather large
       group.
Guess who was out for the next four days with food poisoning.

People like that make assumptions about what the CEO would want
       in their "underlings."
First, the CEOs are human, and second, many of them want
decisive people who will speak up when stuff is wrong.
