It's not as bad, but I also feel sorry for the guys named
       Sheldon.

Just last night I watched the final episodes of Big Bang Theory.
And while he was awful to people throughout the series, the
Sheldon character was so touching in the final episode, he made
       me cry.

It's usually used for a GenX woman, but that name was falling
out of favor by the time that generation started. But it was
very popular for Baby Boomers. I know a Karen who's pre-Boomer
and another who's GenX & so doesn't fit the meme. For one thing,
       she's a WOC.

I mentioned up thread I have a sister named Karen. She and I
were on a short trip with a third sister who requires a
wheelchair. Travel can sometimes be a challenge and after a full
day of driving and visiting a few relatives, we were all getting
a bit short on patience and were hungry. As we were about to
check in to the hotel, Karen started asking/complaining about
something as I'm trying to hunt for a credit card and sister in
wheelchair asking the desk clerk about the room and we both
stopped and said "Ok, Karen, just a minute" in exasperated
       voices.
The desk clerk gave us both the stink eye. Remembering this
thread, I said "No, that is really her name." We all got a
       laugh.

And this shows you exactly how pervasive this meme has become.
ETA: If the desk clerk gave you the stink eye, that's pretty
much proof that "Karen" has become a slur! Glad you all found it
       funny.

There was a talk show host who used the name “Poindexter” to
refer to nerdy guys who marry gold-diggers.

Sheldon as a first name for men is quite rare I'd say. I know
I've never met a man or boy named that.

I do too, but Felicia was a much less common name than Karen,
not that it made it any easier for those who DO have the name
       Felicia!
