I thought your joke was funny! I think being a Karen is more
about how a message is conveyed than the message itself. An
example: my husband and I were at a restaurant recently and
ordered a pizza that was supposed to have pepperoni, sausage,
and portabello mushrooms. We are "regulars" and know our server.
When we got the pizza, my husband said something like, "Not to
be a Karen*, but I think the sausage is missing?" Our server
looked and said, "Ugh - we have a new cook and he keeps doing
that on this pizza! I'll go have him make another one." We said
that no, it was fine, no worries, we didn't need the sausage.
Our server later reduced our bill, but we didn't ask her to. No
manager was involved. No cooks were fired. No blood pressure or
voices were raised.
*for some reason our circle of friends has been joking with each
other about being Karens a lot recently, so this is something we
refer to frequently! Hah!

Yes, it's all about attitude. Years ago, I was at a restaurant
and my appetizer was cold inside. They took it back and it was
still cold when it came back. I didn't make a big deal; I just
wanted hot food. The manager came to apologize and to comp the
dish. I was surprised and said they didn't have to, but he
insisted.
A Karen would have made the waiter cry, demand groveling, the
waiter fired, and free meals for the next year. From the stories
I read, that's not an exaggeration.

Male Karens are Kevins.
I know a Karen who is Karen epitomized.

On Reddit, there is a convention of a Kevin being an
overconfident but flatly stupid and immature guy.

Right--do you want it fixed, or to alert someone? Or do you want
to enjoy the making of the fuss?
or, is the complaint the point? or is complaining the point?

I feel bad for people whose name is Karen.
I know three of them.
One is SO NOT a Karen.
The other is a different version of "not a Karen."
And the third can be a Karen sometimes, and has been in the
past.
The name was chosen, I think, because it peaked in the 1960s, so
it denotes someone sort of older, and they're thought of as
fussy. Most Karens are actually a little bit younger.

I'm so very tired of the Karen memes. Now all the racist over 30
white women are called that also. Yes, my name is Karen, and
it's becoming almost a slur. It gets to the point that you don't
want to introduce yourself. There are a whole lot of men around
named Kevin, but yes Karen is a 60's and 70's name. Really not
that many of us.

I understand your frustration. And I want you to know I don't
associate the name Karen with the personality "A Karen". You
certainly didn't select the name. And when I heard someone
called a "Karen" I knew what it was the instant I heard it. As I
would if she was called <enter another name here>.
I'm sorry, though, that they happened to choose your name.

Thank you for that! It really is getting old, really fast. I'm
so sick of the jokes. It didn't really bother me when it was
just "I want to speak to your manager, NOW" . But it just hurts
me deeply, when all these racist bitches are called "Karen".
Every white woman that behaves like a jackass to people of color
is now named Karen. We were not raised that way, even growing up
in the deep south. I DO realize that I'm taking it really
personally, however, my name IS personal to me.
ETA: I'm almost at the point that I want to switch to my middle
name

from a strictly linguistic point of view, I find the use of
"Karen" for the racist bitches to be really annoying. Because
wanting to speak to the manager is a very different thing. And I
don't like them being conflated like that.
And I am sorry that your name gets used that way.

According the the Urban Dictionary, a Kevin is a nice, rather
sweet, perhaps not very smart guy.
I’ve seen male Karens referred to as “Chads.” I’ll let you all
look up the Urban Dictionary entry on that one.

I've also seen them referred to as 'Kyle' or 'Keith'.
