Labo(u)r Day and Fathers’ Day
By: Lilipons Date: September 3, 2020, 4:37 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
This coming Sunday, Australians and New Zealanders will be
celebrating Fathers’ Day. The next day, Canadians and people in
the USA will enjoy Labor Day.
We’re still not allowed to dine indoors but the outdoor dining
areas are going full-tilt-boogie and looking very festive.
We’ll also be doing some ribs with fresh local corn and
tomatoes. The weather looks good so it will be quite a pleasant
weekend. Ovation TV will also be running a ‘Librarians’
marathon on Monday.
What’s on your holiday agenda?

I think I'll be using our spare day to get things done around
the house. Maybe I'll see if DH and I can go somewhere
interesting for a walk. One tough thing is that we're in a
crowded part of the world, and so there are often lots of people
around, even on a trail, etc.
We have an anniversary coming up, and we were trying to decide
if we were comfortable enough to go to a restaurant with outside
dining. (One of our favorite places has held on through the
pandemic, so we'd go there, but I'm still dithering.)

Fathers’ Day in the UK is the third Sunday in June. But we never
took any notice of it in my family - my parents ignored all
invented things like that as a conspiracy by the greetings-card,
chocolate and floristry industries. Though my mum would just
about tolerate a home-made card or a bunch of wild flowers on
Mothering Sunday, which is at least a genuinely traditional
English custom.

I’m in Melbourne so we’re not allowed out. I organised fancy
take out from a nice restaurant and I think we had a normal day,
ie did very little.

We grilled out pork chops today and will have steaks tomorrow.
A very relaxing weekend. We've been watching old movies and
munching. Maybe we'll play some badminton tomorrow if the
weather isn't too hot.

My son and his young family moved in with us. Tomorrow is the
6th birthday for grandson #1. We willbe building a castle out
of grahm crackers, ice cream cones, and icing for his cake.

Sounds like a wonderful way to celebrate. Hopefully the whole
family will be able to participate in the castle construction --
and its subsequent demolition! ;)

All my 'research' into getting ideas for the castle was for
naught. Birthday boy was taken miniture golfing and also to a
batting cage. By the time we realized there were only 6 grahm
crackers in the pantry the stores had shut for the day.
Birthday boy iced his cake, stuck on cone turrets and was happy
but tired out.[/img]
