Turns out I will be doing something, after all. My brother and
his wife will be visiting to see my Dad and we're going to grill
some steaks for lunch. :)

For the past decade DH & I have usually hosted a back yard
Bar-B-Q for up to 40 friends.
DH invited two couples to have a Bar-B-Q with us on the Fourth.
and THEN he informed me. I am not a happy camper.
Oh wait--he invited them to our house "sometime between July
3---6 depending on the weather." He wanted to decide closer to
the date.
I am not a happy camper.

I live in Santa Barbara, California, a resort town about 1-2
hours from Los Angeles. LA has had its bars ordered closed again
and the beaches will probably be closed before the holiday
weekend. On such a holiday weekend, we'd get a LOT of visitors
from the LA area. I suspect it will be much worse this year.
So, while the governor didn't order SB to close its bars it did
strongly recommend it. However, late yesterday, I believe, the
local health officer did. The exception is those bars that also
serve food. So there are plenty that will still stay open and
apparently bars can apply for emergency food licenses.
I do not plan on going anywhere. I have plenty of groceries at
home and no need to go out. The fireworks were cancelled but as
of this writing, the beaches are open. Which means we are
probably going to be swamped.

Annnnnnnd . . . our beaches will be open for the fourth.
Tourism tax revenue is down by 80% so I think that fueled the
decision. According to the comments on our local website, many
people are expecting a huge number of people from Los Angeles,
one of the major centers of virus infections. We shall see.

We normally go to a family cook out in a neighboring state.
That's been postponed until Labor Day.
This year will be extra low-key due to the virus and it's going
to be very hot. We are going to grill out something and I might
make a fruit pizza for dessert. Cool air conditioning and some
movie watching (we have to watch 1776 every year) and maybe play
some board games (Scrabble, Ticket to Ride, Redneck Life,
Trivial Pursuit), Just a relaxing weekend.

I'm going to make kosher hot dogs on my George Foreman grill and
take the day off to relax.

Normally my town has the biggest outdoor fireworks display west
of the Mississippi. Our population about triples for the show.
The guy who sponsors it very sensibly decided to cancel, and the
city also cancelled the giant street fair. Cue the wailing and
gnashing of teeth. ::) ::) ::) Some of the smaller towns will
be doing their own fireworks. One is from an “undisclosed
location”, another is splitting them up among three locations so
that people will hopefully watch from their homes.
Since we’re not close to either town, we will probably just have
a cookout with my dad and FIL, watch 1776, and set off our own
fireworks.

I'm going to make brats and coleslaw, as I always do. We were
going to watch the fireworks from the fairgrounds, as we can see
them quite well from where we live, but they are cancelled this
year due to covid 19. I predict many homegrown fireworks shows
up and down my street, however. I try not to think of the sparks
which must be flying everywhere.

DH is out right now getting a part for our Weber BBQ so he'll be
able to barbeque. Our daughter went to Costco this morning and
we have steaks. Not sure what else we'll have, but we'll
probably spend some time playing board games. Our current
favorite is Azul.

We'll (the 4 of us) will be having St. Louis ribs from the
smoker. And corn on the cob and roasted potatoes and carrots
from the oven. A home made apple may be in the offering also my
daughter says. We'd love to invite people, but we won't this
year. It's going to be too hot to eat outside on the patio
though.
