Chub Rub
By: NFPwife Date: May 14, 2020, 3:44 pm

Now that the catchy title caught your eye, let me tell you what
just happened.
There's a FB challenge about doing 25 push-ups a day for your
mental health. With a little blurb about MH and then you
nominate someone every day. Cousin I like, let's call her
Leanne, posts it and nominates me. I reply that I'm doing the
album challenge, I'll do this in a little while although it's
not going to be push-ups because push-ups everyday are, IMO, a
bad idea and would ruin my MH. (laughing crying emoji) I then
added that for my MH I just bought some cute summer t-shirt
dresses and a new pair of prescription sunglasses to wear on my
evening walks. I figured I won't be able to go anywhere for
vacation so I'm creating my own vacation vibe.
Cousin who annoys me (let's call her Amanda) replies with,
"Aren't you worried about chub rub?"
I started to say, "Nope, because, unlike you, my thighs are
practicing social distancing." (She's had posts and pics that
flaunt social distancing. Memes about going the wrong way in the
store, etc. etc.) I realized that was too snarky, so I posted,
"Nope, my thighs are practicing social distancing." And went on
about my business. A couple people gave that a laughing
response.
A couple people in the thread talked about chub rub and
recommended products for it. Then I get a message from Michelle,
mutual friend, that Amanda was upset with my comment and thought
it was rude to point out that my thighs don't rub. I said,
"Ruder than her assuming they do and asking publicly?" Nothing
more from Michelle.
Then, Amanda changed her comment to "I'd be worried about chub
rub," it shows as edited and now my comment of "Nope. My thighs
are practicing social distancing," sits under that and could be
construed as rude. (I'm 10000% sure that Michelle had something
to do with the change, she can't stand conflict. I'm willing to
bet Amanda complained to her, then she reached out to me, then
went back to Amanda with my reply. She's more meddler trying to
make peace than flying monkey.)
So, would you change the reply? If yes, what would you say? I'm
tempted to leave it because Amanda is on my nerves, but I
realize that's probably my irritation talking so I'll let your
cooler heads prevail.

I think what you said was fine. You are talking about
yourself...and it even if your thighs normally touch, you are
making a joke.
It is more strange that she brought the topic up.

I think your response was funny and it still is even though she
changed her original post. I would just drop it.

I might go change it to something like, "I'm lucky, my thighs
are..."

I would unfriend Amanda, delete her comment and then set my
computer on fire!
Or wait. Maybe I would change my response to "You probably
should be. I'm not!!!" [emoji48]
Geez! So much drama!
But seriously, I would just delete her comment and any other
comment that mentioned "chub rub."
This pandemic has been really difficult for everyone. And
you're trying to do something for your MH that eases that
stress. You don't need to be even thinking about "chub rub" or,
honestly, any other negative thing posted by some nincompoop on
your FB feed!
And the fact that you actually received a phone call about the
benign comment you made?
OMG! That's where I would just feel like setting my computer on
fire.
No matter how much we progress technologically, there will
always be someone who just has to crap on our party.
Unless you enjoy her presence on your FB in other ways, there is
no rudeness in unfriending her. She's being a drag.

Amanda sounds like a pill, and she's rude to boot. Michelle is
her flying monkey. Leave it as is, I'd see her comment and think
she's a jerk and you're funny.

I'm sorry - "chub rub"? Is Amanda trying to imply that OP is too
fat to walk without skin damage? And then sends a flying monkey
to try to further shame her?
Oh no, Amanda. No.

I just don't see how doing push ups is going to prevent chub
rub.
