Sound like great gifts and a lot of fun. A similar gift that
has gone over big with my young granddaughters is a self
rewinding measuring tape. The one where you push a button and
it retracts. They are made to look like ladybugs, sunflowers,
etc. I get them from a catalog and always keep a few spares
because they break after a couple of months from constant usage.
i don't replace them instantly but usually throw one in with
       the birthday or Christmas gifts.
You sound like you have a great understanding of kids.

What lovely presents! Especially for an un-birthday!

They'll arrive in the middle of the stay-at-home (thank you, my
beloved USPS), so that will be a good monotony breaker.

I think kids love getting grown-up items. A timer and a
       flashlight are both good.
This is good to keep in mind, as I am sure a lot of us are going
to be in the same position over the next several weeks and
       months.

I felt a little guilty, because these are really my clutter
(well, I would have used the lantern, at some point, I think).
But the kids won't care, and my cousin is too sensible to be
upset over the lack of packaging.

Years and years ago, as a "gift" from a place I bought clothes
from mail order (that's how long ago this was), I received a
watch, a, definitely gaudy watch. I decided to give it to my
       then 6 year old niece.
But then, what do I give her 3 year old sister? At a lunch in a
very trendy place, I had bought a trendy drink that came with a
plastic shark sticking out of it. I hoped that my niece would
not realize what an incredibly silly gift it was.
Guess which gift was the one they fought over for the next 6
months? That stupid plastic shark made me the cool aunt. Go
       figure.

       yay for the shark!
I got a Messenger text today; all the packages arrived on the
same day. We mailed them yesterday!
She sent pictures of the kids with their toys; Emily apparently
loves flashlights, so that was definitely a hit. And Thomas was
busy putting his train car into the set, so that was good too.
Johnny was napping; I’ll find out later if he likes his penguin
timer, and if he can use it.

       That's a definite result!
I'm glad the gifts were well received.
