when this started I took off all the rings I could (wedding ring
still won't come off) and cut my nails short to facilitate good
hand washing. Sometimes I shift from one foot to the other for a
count of 20 while washing, to get in a little exercise too!

I've always been a hand washer. And a fairly thorough one,
though not obsessive. I watched a Mythbusters episode once where
they studied germs and they confirmed that wet surfaces transmit
more germs - so I also thoroughly dry my hands.
When things were heating up with Covid around here, but before
the stay-at-home happened, I began washing my hands even more
thoroughly but I think was the only one. Now that I'm back to
the office* I seldom see anyone else in the restroom. However, I
have seen one woman in there two times who still just "spritzes"
her hands - not really washing them. I've been telling myself
she uses hand sanitizer before she touches anything.
*we're at 50% capacity as recommended and practicing social
distancing.

The biggest think I have had to accept through this pandemic is
that I cannot control other people's actions. I can, however,
control my own. I can wash my own hands an refrain from
touching my face.
That's so true. And so frustrating! I was really hoping that
this might change our office environments in a positive way... I
suppose there is still time.

I believe most people in my office are taking the hand washing
more seriously.
Everyone is also wearing masks in the office (required in the
building unless you are alone in your cube, office, or restroom
stall) But sometimes people don't wear it over their nose (a new
pet peeve for me to have). I guess to cover their mouth is
better than no mask at all.

If it helps, I read of a study that said virus shedding from the
nose is significantly lower than from the mouth (at least in
terms of simple breathing).
Then again, when I went to look for it before posting this (in
case I was wrong), I saw this:
HTML https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/lio2.384
from April 10
The sinonasal cavity may be a major site of infection by
SARS‐CoV‐2, where susceptibility genes required for
infection are expressed at high levels and may be modulated by
environmental and host factors. Viral shedding appears to be
highest from the nose, therefore reflecting a major source for
transmission.
and this:
HTML https://www.medpagetoday.com/infectiousdisease/publichealth/84988
Researchers examined 72 nasal swabs and 72 throat swabs
from the 17 symptomatic patients, and found viral loads were
highest soon after symptom onset, and more in the nose than the
throat.
I take that as an indication of how early we are in our dealings
with Covid. Normally, it takes months and years of study to get
a full handle on a virus. People are expecting quick answers,
but it just doesn't work like that.

That's why I like reading about Covid-19 here: posters are
succinct, and post sources/references.
I'm getting pretty unhappy about being told "we're following the
science" without being told what science and whose science.
Tell me it's a professor of virology, whose worked with
SARS/coronaviruses since the 1970s, and I will listen [as in a
repost in another thread]; just tell me to "believe us, we're
following the science", I'm not so sure. If you tell me the
science comes from Andrew Wakefield, I'll be even more
sceptical. Why is 6' OK for social distancing? I'm sure I've
seen research [years ago, so I may be misremembering] that
suggests a sneeze can travel 23'...
So I really appreciate people who have spent time and effort
searching out the various opinions [we're nowhere near close to
"truths" in this yet, I feel] and posting the pertinent parts.
Thank you all for reasoned opinions and links that are backed up
with researched science that is properly attributed.
Right, threadjack over, I'm off to wash my hands.
However, I have a coworker who I suspect never washes his
hands after using the restroom.
Just curious. Why do you suspect he doesn't wash his hands? Hope
the answer isn't something gross.
My old office was next to the restroom. As much as I tried not
to, I could hear everything that went on in there. ::) I knew
when the toilet flushed. I knew when the sink water was turned
on (or not). Sure, it's possible that I simply missed the sink
water running... every time he was in there. I just found it
strange that I didn't with others. I don't know if you call that
gross or me being a busy body or what. Trust me... I really
didn't want any of this information. :-\

Oh yes, my last office job was like that!
Right after I read your OP, I was telling my DH about years ago
when I worked in an office with a total of 9 women. I and one of
the other women, also in her late 20's. The two of us figured
out that we were the ONLY ones in OUR department that ALWAYS
washed our hands before we went back to the office. We both kept
the paper towel we dried our hands on, in our hands to open the
door because we were grossed out that no one else washed their
hands. There were other offices on that floor and most of them
didn't wash their hands either.
I don't remember which one of us brought up the subject when we
found ourselves to be in there by ourselves but we did have a
little discussion. Her mother was a nurse so that is why she had
always done that.
Me, MY mother got MAD because I was always wasting water washing
my hands... that I was like Grandma Dollie (her grandmother, my
great-grandmother), always washing her hands. Well, maybe THAT
is why Grandma Dollie lived to be 97-1/2? And was in darn good
health up until the last year? I was lucky, EVERY single time I
went to visit her in that last few months, she was having a GOOD
day, recognized me and was in the present, not the past.
And we weren't obsessive hand washers, just washed after going
to the restroom, before cooking, eating, etc.
I actually wash my hands BEFORE and after going (unless I'm at
home and then it's just after). I kept getting recurrent UTIs
and it turned out that it was because I handled cash all day
long. Money is filthy.
Oh gosh yes! When I handle a bunch of money, I wash my
hands first! Years ago, I was working in back drive-thru at a
fast food restaurant taking orders AND payment. There would be
times I'd be praying I'd get a one minute lull so I could RUN to
the kitchen sink and wash my hands quickly before I had to take
another order. My hands not only felt grimy but I'd have a grey
tinge to them from handling all the money. The kitchen sink was
fairly close but the handwashing sink and restroom sink were too
far away.
