Not wanting to be battered = lack of Christmas spirit
By: Songbird Date: December 14, 2019, 7:07 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
So DBF and I went to Radio City to see the Rockettes. Great
show, if you're in NYC at Christmas you should see it.
The lobby opens an hour before the show, but the theater doesn't
open until 30 minutes before the show.
So a bunch of us are lined up in the lobby, waiting for the
doors to open.
And the couple behind me are complaining about having to wait,
and about a million other inconveniences. And the woman has a
big shopping bag, which hits me in the back every time she
moves.
So I finally turn around and say something to her.
And her response? "It's Manhattan, it's Christmas, where's your
Christmas spirit?"

It's been beaten out of me.

Wish I’d thought of that yesterday.

People have a sense of where their bodies are, but when they are
wearing a backpack or holding a bag they do not have sense of
where those are.

I don't think I agree with that. When I'm carrying a bag, purse,
or something, I can tell if I'm bumping people. I guess people
in large cities like New York become more tolerant of having
their space invaded, but being repeatedly bumped with a shopping
bag would be annoying and I don't think "Christmas Spirit" has
anything to do with it.

New York is sometime tight during the holidays, but I've never
had anyone accuse me of not having Christmas spirit when they
bumped me with their bag. I usually get an apology for the bump
and they try to move it to a place that won't bump.
I would have been tempted to tell Complaining Woman "it's been
slowly drained out of me and into your bag".

She just sounds like she was generally a grump, or at least in a
grumpy mood. She was maybe not feeling the Christmas spirit
since she was complaining about things, and projected that
feeling on to you!
Maybe a good reply would have been, "Ho Ho Ho! Merry Christmas!
... Now, please don't bump me with the bag again." ;D :P
