I'd leave it alone. Like you said, James will contact them when
he needs his meds.

I would ignore it the first time but after that, if I was able
to catch the call, I would answer and let them know. If I just
kept getting messages, I would ignore it as I would presume
James would eventually go to the pharmacy to get his
prescription, or he would call them.

This exact situation happened to me back in 2015. I was off work
and going through chemo at the time, and I was exhausted more
often than not. So the phone call woke me from a nap, and it was
for the person who had my phone number before me (I know this
because I kept getting calls for the same person from all over).
Now I figured like others here that Jonathan would eventually
connect with the pharmacy. Except what was probably happening
was that Jonathan was going in to the pharmacy to pick up his
prescription, and it was assumed that he was responding to the
robocall, and not just showing up.
So it happened a second time a month later. Then a third the
month after that. After the fourth such occurrence, I contacted
the corporate office for CVS (the pharmacy in question), and
explained what was going on. Personally, I didn't care except
for the fact that these calls were invariably waking me up.
Corporate apologized to me, said that they would flag his
account as having a no longer valid number, and that he would be
prompted to give his current number the next time he went in to
pick up his prescription.

when a school had my number for some student and I got repeated
robocalls at inopportune times, notifying me that said student
had missed class. This was way back when I had a land line.
After a few times, I called the school and it took some doing to
get them to understand that the number was wrong. I had a
feeling that the student had deliberately given the wrong number
because she was repeatedly skipping class!

I had this same situation with a school trying to contact the
parents of some kid I never heard of. I kept calling them back
telling them it was the wrong number but they refused to do
anything. Finally, my stepmother in law called them back and
they listened to her -- they said I sounded like a teenaged boy
so they didn't believe me. The boy's mother insisted that it
was the right number until she was told that the next time Mrs F
(me) answered that number they would call CPS. Suddenly she
remembered her real phone number.

I don't think you're obliged to do anything here. At the very
most, if the Pharmacy was calling from a mobile phone, I might
text back, simply saying "Wrong number."

Because timeliness is important with medications and because I'd
worry for James, after checking on the legitimacy of the
pharmacy and their phone number, I'd call and correct them.
A pharmacy near me (now closed) had a phone one digit different
than mine. It happened quite a few times that their patients
would leave messages on my machine. Usually, the patients were
elderly (I assume based on their voices). I always called the
pharmacy and told them that so-and-so left such-and-such a
message. I couldn't help but worry for the patient.

One of my friends had the same situation you did. When her
answering machine picked up a call, the first thing it said was
"This is not a pharmacy; it's a private home. If you're calling
the pharmacy, please check the number and try again."

From my experience, most of these chain pharmacies have an
automated phone system that makes the calls, and I am not able
to call back on the number that shows up on my caller ID. I have
to call the listed number.

I'm sure it's really a pharmacy. And it's a robocall. Happened
again today.

You have two options. Ignore the calls or contact the pharmacy
to tell them what's happening.
