       We don't miss you
By: TeamBhakta Date: November 24, 2019, 8:59 am

I have a bit of a problem. A co-worker took off of work for two
months (possibly longer.) None of us like her, so it's been a
relief to all. Unfortunately, this is also where she grocery
shops. She popped by the other day and asked (not jokingly) if
we miss her, if things are running less smoothly without her,
etc. I was a bit shocked she thought that. I could only come up
with "It's been too quiet here without you." Any suggestions for
other polite responses to her questions next time ?

       It's been fine.
       We sure noticed your absence.

I love Rose Red's suggestion of: We have noticed your absence.

Nothing's been the same since you've left.
Things are running as smooth as could be expected.
We've managed to hobble along without you.

       Not even a little bit.
       I don’t like lying.

I don't either, but I also think not all truth needs spoken.
Hence the frequent complications in which I find myself.
I'd probably dodge the question and say, "Are you missing us?"
       Or, "How are you doing?"

All the other suggestions are the truth but won't create drama
and an uncomfortable work environment for all. It's not clear,
but the OP may need to work with this woman again if this is
just a break. Even if the woman had quit, she can't speak like
that to a customer. The OP doesn't want a reputation of being
       unprofessional.
