When I was in college, I was amazed by the number of people who
would leave their laptops sitting unattended on a desk in a room
accessible to a lot of people they didn't know well
[/quote]
This makes me think about people who lay their cellphones down
just anywhere. I see this in restaurants all the time, but other
places too. Lay down the phone on the table, forget about it,
and walk off. I'm sort of surprised there aren't more incidents
of cell phone snatching as it seems to me to be easy pickins!
But yeah, you know, ain't none o' my bidness. ;D

Reminds me of an article of a city kid who got a scholarship to
a private school and was stunned that other students (and even
faculty) leave their backpacks, laptops, etc. on the lawn and
lunch/library tables and just trust it will still be there. I
remember doing that when I was in high school (public but
suburban) and nothing was ever taken. Sad that it's not that way
everywhere.

I changed colleges mid-education and had the same thing happen
at both of them. Women would leave their dorm room door unlocked
and be amazed when they found someone standing over them in the
middle of the night (generally, under the influence) or that
someone had taken something out of their room.
I notice that dorm doors are self-locking, now, so I guess that
is less of a problem now.
