       Pet hi-jinks

Not embarrassing, so new topic. Exasperating more like it. I
live with a cat burglar. Turner is a ginger cat who loves taking
things like pens off desks and playing soccer (football outside
the USA) with them, often dribbling them into inaccessible
crevices. I learned not to leave my jewelry anywhere he could
get at it when I lost one of a favorite pair of earrings. Well,
I forgot tonight, and removed my wristwatch while working on the
computer. I am sitting in a recliner so I put the watch on the
arm of the chair. Next thing I hear the cat whacking something
around the wood floor, and he has my watch! He had to have
reached up ver-r-r-y carefully while I was engrossed in what I
was typing, snagged the watch silently and then made off with
it. he always looks at me so reproachfully when I remove his new
       toy.
Anyone else have a goofy pet story?

This one's second-hand, as it was my sister's cat. Sis and
then-BIL were painting their home, using a light color. They'd
left the paint can lid lying around. They didn't realize the
felines had taken any notice until they were done, and found a
bunch of weirdly-shaped paint splotches, concentrated around the
bathroom. There they found their black cat calmly sitting...on
her white-painted butt. She'd sat on the lid and then left
white kitty butt-prints around the place.
Sis had nothing good to say about de-painting the cat.

My cat Dash likes to go into our laundry room and bring socks
downstairs, which she will then drop on the floor and meow for
       approval.
The house now looks like an underwear drawer exploded.

My mother had a dog who loved "reading" books. The problem was
that nobody else could read tham afterwards. Mum had imported
him from Finland and he arrived with a list of commands he knew
in Finnish. He learned English commands quite quickly, but the
thing that really made us laugh? The first 2 books he "read"
were a dictionary and a thesaurus!

We named a completely tabby cat (no white markings anywhere)
Socks because he would fish a sock out of the unsorted basket of
socks, drag it elsewhere in the house, kill it, and leave its
       carcass on the floor.
My mom was yelling at us about leaving our socks on the floor,
and just one, why were we so lazy that we didn't take it along
with the other one and put it in the laundry.

One of my cats “takes a shower” after me every day. He stands
directly under with his head tilted up and laps up the drips as
they fall. It's the cutest darn thing! If I start getting ready
before turning the water on low for him, he will come and tap me
on the leg and meow until I turn on the water.

Jacky was a tabby, and like most tabbies, very clever. I know
most cats are pretty clever, but tabbies seem to be more so. He
somehow got hold of a length of floral wire, the kind you make
those big paper flowers out of. We saw him running around with
in his mouth, and "chasing" the other end. I got it away from
him, and made it safe for him by bending a loop in each end and
covering it with masking tape. "Oh, even better!" he thought,
now he could really grasp one end in his mouth, and see
something at the other end to chase. Well, the most hilarious
time we had was the day he finally ran it into a wall, which
caused the wire to bend, of course. Then, he chased the other
end around in circles, until we were practically helpless on the
floor. He liked us to toss it gently for him, and to run it up
the wall for him to jump at. When WE would tire of it, we'd put
it away in a cupboard because he was such a pest, and he'd stand
outside the cupboard and cry and cry for it. He was such a
bratty cat, but he was lots of fun. He lived to be over 17 years
       old.

When I was young, late teens, I think, we had a cat that liked
to dig in the garbage. The trash can in the upstairs bathroom
was his favorite. One day Mom had a few friends over to chat,
while Sis and I were in the kitchen doing homework. "Aunt Flo"
was also visiting. Well, we all heard cat, yowling like he'd
just caught Big Bird, around something in his mouth. Purring
and yowling, he hurried down the stairs and proudly presented
       his prize at Mom's feet.
This prize sprang open to reveal a shredded, unwrapped...and
       used...feminine hygiene product.
Needless to say, Mom was mortified, Sis and I were laughing
hysterically, and the guests beat a hasty retreat.

I heard what I thought was someone trying a key in our front
door. When I went to check it out I found our part Burmese cat
Dink standing on the old door handle with her paws wrapped
around the deadbolt twisting from side to side trying to open
the door. She has also shut doors on me and got in between me
and the chair, put her paws between my shoulders and pushed me
       off the chair.

Funny you should mention Burmese. The trash killer in my post
above was Burmese; first one I ever had. They're a very
       entertaining (sometimes mortifying) breed.
