It would cause me anxiety and I don’t want to hate the game

And I wanted to respond to just this point. I think it's time
for a talk with your DH that you aren't interested in leading.
DH and I used to play D&D. He really enjoyed running the game
and was very good at it. He pushed me to do it--with a story
telling background, he thought I'd be really good. But I don't
especially enjoy it. It's too much work!
So in this case, I think it would be okay to be clear that if he
wanted to come over to give your DH pointers, that's fine, but
that you aren't interested and will be doing your own
thing--just as you would do if your DH were inviting a co-worker
over because they had something they wanted to discuss about
work.

Well I am not married but I wouldn't think it at all odd if one
half of a married couple invited me over to do something (learn
a game, learn leadership, watch a movie, discuss mutual
interest) and the other half was off doing their own thing.

I think the possibility for oddness arises if LordRexall said:
"come over and teach up both", and then LadyRexall makes herself
scarce/watches TV.
Otherwise, that seems perfectly normal (one spouse entertaining
a person related to their interest). I can cope with about
10-15 minutes discussing the latest tweak to one motorcycle or
another, but much past the hour point, I am longing to chop off
my own ears and stuff them down the holes; much better to go and
clean the oven/whatever! ;) ;D

I wouldn’t think it that odd for one spouse to be wrong about
the other’s interest level. Even between spouses, people make
assumptions that turn out to be wrong.

I don't think that odd at all, where I can start to get a bit
tetchy is when one spouse speaks for the other without checking
with them first:
The Captain: "Of course, Mother, you may invite yourself to join
us on our only week of holiday in the last two years."
<paraphrasing happening here>
Miriam: "How nice; a lovely relaxing week in close proximity to
Mother-in-Law!" <no gritted teeth here>
