No, although she asked how I managed to score an extra night.
That is when I said that after she asked to cut back (my
assumption) that I got the call. That is when she informed me
that she did not cut back and I realized what really happened.
So far, no emotion has been directed at me. Coworker is upset
with Boss for not honoring her wishes and not giving her the
guidance to be successful. If she ever found out that I
requested the extra night, I am not sure if reaction would be
different.

But you didn't "request" the extra night! You just informed
your boss you were available if she needed you.

An extra day meaning anytime on the schedule would be fine with
you, right?

But according to your OP you didn't request the extra night. Or
did you?
Please be honest with us so that we can help you in the best
possible manner.

?? I don't think this conflicts at all. OP doesn't say
anywhere that she asked for a specific night. Accusing her of
lying is bizarre.

Thanks Surly! You are correct. I never requested any specific
evenings or classes from Boss (including Coworker's now former
classes). Any confusion is not due to my lack of integrity, but
rather lack of clarity in my writing. I have always (and plan to
always) be as honest as I can with this forum.

You offered an extra night of availability. You didn't offer a
specific night (as clarified :D ). Your knowledge of friend
wanting to cut back might have given you the idea to offer an
extra night, but you didn't specifically ask for friend's
classes. Boss made the decision based on performance. You've
done nothing wrong here.

I don’t think you did anything wrong here. It was not your
intent to take a night from your coworker.

Your boss made a move for the best interest of the dance studio.
You are more qualified, so she put a more qualified teacher on
that class.
Yes, it is sad about your coworker, but there you go.

Thanks everyone for clearing my conscious. I had never intended
to harm Coworker; I really thought that this would be a win-win
situation.
I have not really talked to Coworker since the decision and
would likely not see her for some time since we are on summer
break. I think I am going to give her some space/time to deal
with the disappointment and then contact her like I normally
would or even invite her to dinner (as we do that on occasion.)
Hopefully, she continues to not blame me, but I guess only time
will tell.
Thank you for all of your thoughts!

Take some comfort in the fact that your coworker was already
considering this change, anyway. That makes it a bit better that
she actually had the idea herself before it happened.

If everyone is off for the summer, who knows what opportunities
will open up? Someone else may quit or something. Maybe she
will be offered another class or even more additional classes
than she can even manage!
Even if this isn't a possible scenario -- like if they are the
only teachers or something -- when you are looking at a window
of a few months, it's almost guaranteed that something won't
change. So just sit tight and see how everything shakes out.
It will probably be fine, but almost definitely not exactly like
anything you could predict now. That's life!

I didn't see that as accusing her of lying, but rather that she
wasn't being honest by blaming herself. Odd how we can see it
differently.
