It’s not hard to get around the bend with the proper brush. My
straws came with a brush. I don’t see how they are dangerous. It
took me a while to get used to them, but plastic straws are so
terrible for the environment. I thought it important to at least
try.
Thanks for explaining the brush. They are dangerous to me
because they are so long, sharp, and stiff. They really scare
me, as seeing kids sword fighting with plastic straws. So my
mind mind goes from there. Parent your kids. Many don’t.

Is a stainless-steel straw any more dangerous in that sense than
a pencil? Or a pen, a dowel for a craft project, a table fork, a
pair of adult-size scissors, a knitting needle, a screwdriver,
or even a piece of candy cane sucked until it forms a point? (In
fact, a lot of those are significantly sharper than a straw.)
Kids handle (and sometimes mishandle) objects at that level of
potential danger all the time. Occasionally there is a tragic
accident associated with them, but there are also occasional
tragic accidents from something as simple as a misstep on level
ground or choking on a food that the person has eaten many times
before without incident.
The only major difference I see between a stainless-steel straw
and those other items is that the rest are "normal" things that
kids have been exposed to for generations and stainless-steel
straws are new. (And humanity in general tends to overestimate
the danger of things that are new and different and
underestimate the danger of things that are old and familiar.)

I think the reusable straws are a good idea, but I can see that
people will get tired of cleaning them properly, or think that
just a good rinse will do, then they will become germ/disease
carriers. I don't like the paper straws that I have been getting
recently at one place either because I can taste the paper.
Mostly I drink water out of a glass, so I will not have to worry
about it, and I don't need one more thing to put in my bag for
"just in case I need it."

I sort of agree, but we take the knives away from the table
service, watch the forks, and kids don’t walk around with those
other things a they do with drinks. I’ll stick with paper or
none.

I've seen silicone reusable straws in the stores! They seem
pretty soft.

I reuse a hard plastic straw that came with a reusable plastic
drinking cup. I clean it with a long pipe cleaner.

stainless steel straws are hard, but I've never seen one I'd
consider sharp. Forks are FAR sharper.

I got the exact same thing as a company giveaway. My husband
had to explain to me what it was lol.

I am not as hip as most, so my first reaction would be
confusion. But I understand the need for more reusable goods, so
I would give it a shot. I might end up loving it! Swag, in
general, I find wasteful. Most of the items are junk. However, I
am not the sort of person who likes to toss things, so I have a
collection of swag goodies that I never use and don't want.
I am attending a conference in about a month. They encourage us
to visit the vendors, but I actually try to avoid it. Not
because I do not want to speak with the representatives,
sometimes I learn something new about their products and
services. But more so that I don't want the swag! :P
Can you simply not take it? I know they can be kind of pushy,
but you should be able to say "No, thank you." Even then, I've
seen many people just accept the swag without comment, then
place it on the other end of their table as they walk away.
I am sorry that I missed this! Yes and I do try to avoid taking
unneeded/unwanted things, but you are right, they can be quite
pushy sometimes. On the opposite spectrum, some vendors are more
stingy with their giveaways and I struggle to get the ones that
I want! ;D

I am old enough to remember paper straws, and would happily take
them over plastic if offered. the only time paper is less
satisfactory is when a thick milkshake would clog up and the
paper would soften.
