Overhelpful or ??? - Asked Price & Got More Than I Asked -
       They're "On Order"!

       ---------------------------------------------------------
I bought a used sewing machine last month. I want some
additional optional accessories that aren't going to be cheap,
due to the brand of the machine, and I have the money, just not
ready to drop in & pick up everything on the shopping list as
that might get to be a bigger bite out of my wallet than I'm
prepared to drop at one time in one place.
Went by the dealer's kiosk on my way to a doctor's appointment
and bought bobbins (I prefer to have more than five on hand) and
asked the price of the two (larger & more expensive) additional
accessories that I was looking for. The sales lady there said
that she'd have to phone the main store and ask, as they weren't
on her shelves (we looked - small kiosk) and the prices weren't
listed on the website or other accessible data base.
I went off to the doctor's office down the road and got a missed
phone call (in my purse) and checked it to find that she'd
gotten me the price AND ordered one of each to be delivered to
her location with my name on them (?) and they'd be in on
Thursday. I'd asked the price of both & mentioned that I was
thinking of getting one of them now and the other, maybe, but
later, if it turned out that I needed the second one to get full
       use of the machine.
As the total for these two items adds up to more than $400,
after taxes, is she rude or just overly helpful to have already
ordered them in my name? Or am I just having second thoughts
due to the price being unexpectedly higher than I was thinking
it would be. I did expect that one would be about $100 and the
other close to $200 - but I wasn't expecting the total to be
quite as high as she was telling me it was.
The prices are on the items on the shelf, but the items are not
listed on the website, like the larger chain stores might
       do...I'd checked eBay and Amazon.

I would call back right away and say "Apparently there was a
misunderstanding; I only asked the price so I might budget for
these eventual purchases. I won't be able to buy right now."
That way if this presents a cash flow problem for her business,
she can try to ward it off.
A couple of years ago I inquired about the price of a section of
dock for a lakeside cottage. I specifically told the man at the
marina "don't order it becauese I need to check with my cousin."
He ordered it and proceeded to hound me for about a year about
       this $700 item. Really annoying.

I don't think she was rude because you are under no obligation
to buy them. You asked the price and she couldn't tell you the
price. Your asking the price implied that you needed to know the
price before making a final decision. So do whatever you like.
Buy one of them if you want to, or tell her it costs more than
you realized and you will need to save up for it, or look online
to see if you can get one or both cheaper. If she doesn't like
it that you aren't buying both now, that's her problem. You
didn't tell her to go ahead and order them. She isn't rude for
ordering them, and you aren't rude if you don't buy them at all,
       or don't buy them immediately.

I did call. The woman I spoke to was not the one who answered
the phone. They are taking my name off of them, but apparently
they are supposed to keep them stocked, so getting them from
their main site was something that they might have done anyway.
I may end up taking something else in for repairs...it just got
put in for repairs and should not be acting up with the same
       issue...

It sounds like a sales tactic. When my parents were looking into
buying a car, the car dealer let them know they had a car
shipped in with the color / features my parents wanted. My
parents didn't have to buy it, but the car dealer put their name
on it so they could look at it first. You don't have to buy the
parts, its something they carry anyways, but oh gee isn't it
nice we have these parts you want and we'll just put your name
on it so you can decide if you want them first.

I went back there today - to take my (different brand)
embroidery machine in with its embroidery bed - it was taken in
for repairs last month without the embroidery bed. The problem
is still happening once the embroidery bed is on it. Rather
like telling the car dealer that the car shimmies at 65 miles an
hour, but they "fix" it and test drive it in town at 45 miles an
       hour.
This time, I brought in stitch samples for sewing (looks & feels
fine) and embroidery (does not look right and has a big problem
on the back of the design), as well as a couple of other
comments (with the previous repair invoice, their email to me
stating what the manufacturer thought might be the issue - a
part inside the embroidery bed), and they put on the new invoice
(no $$ until after they look it over and see what needs to be
done and what parts are available to do it, I'm guessing). I
took an older embroidery machine from the same company in last
year in November - not all the needed parts were available and
it got recycled. LONG story - but I am happy with the used
quilt machine that I bought from them...and have another
embroidery machine that I bought off eBay/Facebook Marketplace
(listed both places) as the seller lives close enough to my area
that the embroidery machine could be picked up from her over her
lunch hour by VorGuy. I just need to get another hoop or two.
I'm trying to buy nothing else until I find out what is going on
with the machine that just went to the shop. It's not easy -
but I'm reminding myself that I may have to pay for some parts,
if they aren't covered by warranty.

This is what I thought. She realized she should have some, or
thought she could sell them if you didn't want them, and
       reserved them for you.
It's not like they'll go bad, and this IS her business, so if
you don't want them, she'll sell the to someone else, but if it
turns out you DO, then they're saved for you.
I think she was trying to be nice.
She said "I put your name on them," not "I'll charge your credit
       card."

Employee - not owner - family business with multiple sewing
machine kiosks around this town - possibly three related
businesses (grandfather or father founded it and the next
generation divided up the region between them). Houston is a
       BIG, sprawling metropolitan area.
