No matter what their parents do, people just have their own
       tastes and preferences.
As kids, my brother and I were served the same foods, including
vegetables, and neither of us was ever forced to eat or even to
       try something.
I always liked all kinds of vegetables when I was a child, and I
still do. My brother never liked vegetables, and he still
doesn’t (although after much effort on his gardener husband’s
part, he has expanded the list of those he will eat).

In in a time and space when we have access to a range of good
healthy food, I’m a proponent of letting people including little
ones pick their vegetables of choice. Why would anyone knowingly
want to feed guests something they dislike?
This was definitely not about peas, but about one sister wanting
to prove her parenting superiority to the other. Frankly I’d
have wanted to tell the kids “You can’t have food you actually
like tonight because Auntie is a bitch. But she’s fammmmilyyyy
and we want you to spend time with your cousins. Just do your
best I’ll get you something more after we head back to the
       cabin.”
Ok, I’d never say exactly that, but maybe a milder version. I
have strong feelings about this after a thanksgiving that was
ruined over a relative forcing their kiddo to eat lumpy mashed
potatoes that no one could possibly have enjoyed.
