Rudeness at the ballpark

I love baseball. We are fans of a local team that plays in a
6,000 seat ballpark (very small scale). We see games frequently
throughout the summer. We like to sit in the upper level,
behind home plate.
That means we have to walk through the “club” to get to our
seats.
The club is a restaurant, access is restricted to season ticket
holders and those of us who paid extra to sit on the upper
level. The food in the restaurant is not included with the
price of the ticket.
Recently the club gave up its a la carte menu in favor of a
buffet. You’re seated by a hostess, a waiter takes your drink
order and hands you a paper plate, and a server puts the food on
your plate as you choose items from the buffet table. At the end
of the meal, the waiter hands you a bill.
No problem, right?
Except...
There’s a small table, separate from the main buffet service
area, that contains salad, toppings for hamburgers, and cookies
and brownies. This table is located right by the door that
leads from the club to the seating area. So people who have not
paid for a meal help themselves to cookies and brownies as they
walk through the club to their seats.
Last night I had to wait to get toppings for my burger while
three men who had not paid for their meals helped themselves to
treats on their way out the door.
(I know they didn’t pay for meals, because the restaurant had
opened only a few minutes earlier.)
I’ve emailed the team, suggesting that the small table be moved.
We are going to another game in two weeks, and I think the
restaurant will have the buffet again.
Should I say anything if I see people taking brownies?

No, I don’t think that’s your problem to solve.

No. I agree, but I might mention it to the manager. Surely they
would have known that would happen when they rearranged the
restaurant.

Tell the people in charge what you saw and let them handle or
not handle it for future games. Don't confront the people taking
food.

For all you know, this is part of their plan: If people have
goodwill from the brownies, maybe they'll consider eating there.
Restaurants have done more wasteful things things.
You've alerted them (and surely the restaurant's staff and
managers are not so stupid that they didn't see), and also
alerted them that you didn't appreciate having to wait.
That's all your role is, I think. Oh, and deciding whether you
want to continue to eat there if it's uncomfortable.

You’ve given them the heads up and that’s all you can do - it’s
up to them to correct the situation.
When I used to take my mom to see the A’s, she always got a big
kick out of being seated at club level, even though the seats
weren’t the greatest.

I think that you have done all that you should do. You have
already pointed out the problem, so management is aware. From
there, it is up to them to solve it. Maybe there is a reason
that they have the table there and despite others helping
themselves, they feel that this is still the best option. Now,
if this begins to diminish your experience (having to wait an
extremely long time to get your toppings), then that might
effect any reviews that I provide or what I tell management if
they ask (or it may even mean that I eat elsewhere).

Well, last night ...
We did the buffet again
And I didn’t get any brownies for dessert because people who
didn’t pay for the meal had helped themselves to dessert.
Seems the restaurant was much busier last night than it was two
weeks ago. When the restaurant wasn’t busy, letting people take
the extra cookies and brownies wasn’t an issue. But when the
restaurant was packed ...
The manager said we weren’t the only ones to complain. He’s
going to move the table.

Paying customers complaining will likely do the trick. :) I'd be
mad too if I didn't get a brownie I was supposed to get. Moving
the table sounds like a good idea.

I glad that you will finally get the results that you wanted.
It's sad that these things sometimes have to play out before
anyone understands the problem, but I am glad that you finally
have management's attention. I hope that next time that you get
your brownie... and maybe one for me! ;D
