Re: Prince Harry doesn't invite third cousin to wedding

I’m guessing that with the birth of a third royal baby and
great-grandma still very well settled on the throne Harry is
sufficiently removed from the Crown that his wedding doesn’t
need to be a State or political event. It’s basically just the
wedding of a celebrity, with some added protocol.
That added protocol probably ensures that if a 3rd cousin was
supposed to be invited, she would have been regardless of her
actual or perceived beauty. The fact that she wasn’t is enough
to convince me not to speculate further, unless the Queen
herself tells me there’s something more behind it XD
Also, Meghan Markle will definitely NOT be an easily
overshadowed bride. So, yeah. That whole argument is bonkers.

one important etiquette rule: It's rude to complain publicly
about not being invited to an event--even IF you have reason to
think you should have been.
And if you weren't invited, but think you should have been,
maybe you should take a clearer look at the relationship you
think you have, because maybe you don't.
I don't think that last sentence was grammatical, but I like it
anyway.

I like that (supposedly) Prince Harry insisted on inviting Sarah
Ferguson, who is on the outs with the royal family but he wanted
her there.

From the article:
Lady Amelia and Lady Marina are William
and Harry’s third cousins – granddaughters of the Duke of Kent
who is the Queen’s cousin.
I think it is ridiculous to invite descendants of your
great-grandma's cousin unless you happen to actually have a
presonal relationship with them.

Oh, did he? I thought I'd heard she wasn't going to be invited,
and I was bummed.
Because I can totally see her and Harry getting along.

I am sure there were plenty of family on both sides not invited
to the wedding. Why some of them like Lady Amelia and Meghan's
half siblings are kicking up a fuss about a lack of an invite I
will never understand especially if either the bride or groom
doesn't have much (or any) contact with you ???

I don't know any of my second or third cousins. On the Find a
Grave web site, I was doing some research on my grandfather. I
found the page for his mother, on which a person I've never
heard of made entries. She identified herself as a great
granddaughter, and I contacted her to give her some missing
information, also identifying myself as a great granddaughter of
the same lady. We've never met, and probably never will. It
wouldn't be unusual or remarkable at all that I don't invite
relatives I don't know to my wedding. Why would we expect that
from England's royal family?
When I got married in the 80s, my mother would not invite any
relatives that we had not seen in 10 years (especially since
most lived within 2 hours drive). It just seemed to her to be
begging for gifts. Well, there were a lot of relatives who were
upset about not being invited (even though they probably would
not have recognized me on the street).

and what a lesson jazzgirl205's story is about making
assumptions.
Her mom thought it would be impolite to invite them; they
thought it impolite to be left out.
A lesson for us to leave room for the possibility that other
people might mean well

I also like that Harry wanted Sarah Ferguson there. Apparently
he's close to his cousins Beatrice and Eugenie (Sarah and
Andrew's daughters) so still respects the familial connection.

According to what I've read, this was not a state occasion, so
there's more leeway in who gets invited- or not invited. Also,
St. George's Chapel holds less than half as many guests as
Westminster Abbey, 800 guests as opposed to Westminster's 2,000.
If Prince Harry doesn't feel close to his third cousins, then I
don't see why he has to invite them, "most beautiful royal" or
not. Though I don't think Lady Amelia qualifies as royal,
technically. Prince and Princess titles only descend in the male
line as far as grandchildren of of the Sovereign. So, while her
grandfather is Prince Edward, when her father inherits the title
he will simply be the Duke of Kent and since he's currently 36th
in line for the throne, her odds of being Princess Amelia are
extremely slim, to say the least.
