seder every year (this year its on the fifteenth) and then at
her Temple they have second night Seder. I am going to that the
twentieth and then familys easter celebration the next day. Then
work on monday. Preeeettyy sure that weekend is going to kill me
       ;D

When I was a child I remember going to church in my stiff new
dress and my mother pinning one of those little "doily" veils on
my head because women shouldn't enter God's house with bare
heads...trying to hide our squirming when the sermon went on a
little too long...shedding our church clothes at home and diving
into our Easter baskets, trading candies with each other so we
got the ones we liked best. We used to bite the heads off our
chocolate bunnies first so they wouldn't suffer. My brother
would get a white chocolate rabbit because regular chocolate
didn't agree with him. Easter dinner was roasting in the oven.
One tradition particular to our family was paper kites. We each
got one every year at Easter, and we would fly them all
       afternoon.

Early in this thread I mentioned a confectioner’s shop we called
‘The Greek’s’. That was the place that made solid chocolate
       baseballs of regulation size.
The same place made some really spectacular creations. As a
child I sometimes received one of these. There are two I
       remember.
One was a box of chocolates that resembled a bible. The kicker
was that the box itself was made of chocolate. The other was an
Easter basket with the usual high handle and decoration of
artificial flowers. It was filled with the usual Easter candy
but entire thing was edible including the sugar flowers.
I knew these things must have been quite expensive and my family
never had very much money. When I got older, I believed these
extravagant gifts were more intended for my mother than for me.

My Family Easter Tradition usually occurred sometime in July.
That's when we would finally be able to sniff out the last
       hidden Easter Egg!

LOL! Reminds of the year that my dad was mowing in the heat of
summer and hit a lost Easter egg with the mower. That was when
the "Easter Bunny" would hide the hard-boiled eggs that we had
colored and left out for him. Dad was not happy.

I'm not sure how old I was, but I was little. My great aunt
stuffed me in this horribly itchy Easter dress with equally
itchy tights and patent leather shoes. About 10-15 minutes into
Easter Sunday Service, I'd reached my limit and striped buck
naked except for my panties. At some point she convinced me to
put my slip back on, but that was only after I was convinced
that it did NOT have itchy ass lace on it.

In our little town, the cemetery was nestled against the side of
a large, steep hill we called the ‘High Tor’. Half way up the
hill was a small amphitheater that overlooked the Hudson River
to the east. It saw the occasional Wedding or memorial service
and was an easy hike on a Saturday afternoon.
Our church had too many people to use it for an Easter sunrise
service but an AME church in town made good use of it every
Easter. They also staged a pancake breakfast on Easter morning
that just about everybody who celebrated Easter attended at one
       time or another.

Our church had a tradition of holding sunrise (Son Rise)
services at a pavilion overlooking a lake. The service was lead
by the Senior High Fellowship group. My Senior year of high
school, I gave the sermon. I remember how scared I was, but I
had taken a public speaking class at school and managed to "fake
       it, until you make it."
Afterwards, I realized that I had never gone to any other
sunrise services before that one. I'm the oldest of 7 children
and I think it was too much for my mother to even consider. I'm
       glad I have that memory.

My church has a nice big lawn with a huge cross, and that's
where we'd set up chairs for Sunrise Service on Easter. I loved
it. As an extreme early bird, I liked to go to that service,
because 'for one day a year, church is on MY schedule!'.
       (insert polite laughs here).
