       Parking spots

At my sons school, this is a little throughway and has three
parking spots. They’re lined up in a row, so from the last spot,
you can pull right through to the first or second spot. I like
to park there as it’s really close to the school and I like to
be close since it’s super cold out and pretty slippery and with
my chronic aching joints, close=good. So I parked there today.
In the last spot, closest to the school. A lady pulled up behind
me and waited there me to pull ahead so I was in the second spot
and she could take the last spot. But I was there first. I got
the spot I wanted. I shut my car off and started unloading my
son. She pulled around me and parked in spot 2. She drove a
little too close to comfort for me as she was getting around me.
When we we all out of our cars, she stood there shaking her head
at me. I didn’t say anything, because why? I found a parking
spot and parked. Yes, I could have pulled ahead but I got the
spot I wanted. If I said sorry or blah blah whatever, it might
make her think I thought I was being improper. So, was I? Bring
improper? If there’s a chance to pull ahead in parking, should
you? Is it rude not too?

At my kid's school, pick up and drop off was pretty manic so it
was expected that cars pull as far to the front as possible to
allow quick unboarding or boarding of the kids.
So, yes, I would think it best to pull all the way through to
the first one. It's just 1 or 2 car lengths further to walk in
my opinion and it reduces the number of cars having to pass by
you and then having to park in front of you or one car pulling
up to the first one, you stopping in the last one and the next
car having to squeeze in between the 2 of you.

I believe it was okay to park where you did. Since it may take
longer for some to unload their children than others, the middle
spot could potentially be open while the two outer spots are
taken. Would they expect the person in the "last" position to
       move up then?
Naturally, it is easier for the followers if they can just pull
in to a spot. But you had a valid (perhaps not obvious, but you
are under no obligation to explain to anyone) reason to park
where you did. If you were doing it for spite, that would be
different. But only based on your intent. She appears to have
been projecting that bad intent on you. That reflects poorly on
*her* attitude and lack of awareness. It says nothing about you.

I am really torn, as I can see both sides. I suppose that it
would come down to the norms of the school. If everyone
typically pulls through, then that is probably the more polite
thing to do. However, I agree that if it takes the last car
longer than the first ones, the same scenario could set itself
       without even trying.
What I know for certain is that your non-response was
appropriate. There was nothing to gain by reacting or
       responding.

I don't think it was rude but neither was it considerate. Isn't
this similar to how it is considerate if you pull ahead as far
as possible in a gas station?

While I don't think you were rude, it would be nicer if you
pulled up to the first spot.
I wouldn't want to parallel park in a school parking lot where
there is the potential for kids to be walking or running near my
       car.

If this was any normal kind of place, I would say you are fine.
But with the school and kids and lots of cars, I would say pull
up and make it easier on people behind you.
At a gas station would you not pull up all the way because you
might be farther from the door of the store?

I agree with Betty. I am not sure I understand how these
“parking spots” work - are they actually parking spots or places
for cars to stop to drop off or pick up kids? At any rate, it
seems like pulling as far forward as possible to avoid anyone
needing to parallel park would be the appropriate thing to do.

so, it's three spots along the curb, you have to parallel park,
       correct?
If you had already parked by the time the other car showed up,
she would have had to parallel park
You could have been nice and pulled through to the next spot,
but I don't think you were obligated to do so.
I think she was a tad bit rude.

I’m sorry you have issues with mobility and pain, but you really
should have pulled up if you don’t have a disabled tag or
another way to let people know you are in discomfort. You just
throw the whole rhythm of the process off and make it more
difficult for people to understand what’s going on and navigate
       the drop off area.
