Thresh the Stampede | Marauder of Gor | Torvaldslander
Is on a ship in the Inlet approaching or leaving the docks or
along the shore of the Inlet
says to ALL: I happened to be on the inlet shores. A grin worn
upon my face. My right hand adjust the grip of the harpoon. The
harpoon was 8’ long, made of wood with an 8” single flued steel
head. My left hand held the line leading back to the whale boat
and I wrapped it twice around my forearm and had hopped from the
boat to drag it up onto the shore along with me.
We hunted and killed a baleen whale, I wasn’t sure the specific
species, but it wasn’t a Hunjer and for that I was thankful. It
took three of the whale boats and two successful harpoons to
kill it. The damned beast drug us for nearly 3 ahns before it
even showed any signs of tiring and another 2 after that before
it finally gave up and just began to float there. From start to
finish the whole ordeal today only took 10 ahns of my, and the
rest of the whalers lives. But the Serpent ship our whale boats
belonged to had been on the hunt for months before finding the
whale it was now cutting up and cooking down. But the pay off
       was fantastic.
The whale wasn’t huge. 22’ and weighing about 3 or 4 ton. It
would however deliver us blubber, bone, and oil enough to fill
most of our stocks. Another lucky catch similar to this and we
would be well prepared for winter in all things whale related.
I only took part in the actual hunting of whales, never actually
the cooking down after we caught it, but from what I understood,
the Serpent ship would have an on board cooper to keep them
stocked in enough barrels to store all the oil that would be
cooked from the whale and bone or however that process took
place. So as they got hard at work, I had the men deliver me to
shore. Where I would begin making my way up to the Hall.
