says to ALL: I walked up taking a mallet and started my turn in
the swing sequence. we were making three rows of stakes to
secure a ship with ropes to keep it level so we could work on
the hull.

says to ALL: The ship had smacked into a chunk of ice and the
hull had not quite been breached but would need some boards
replaced. My over hand swings of the mallet echoed along with
the hammering of the other ones as we got a rhythm going and
trying to drive the six gorean foot stakes into the ground at a
45 degree angle.

says to ALL: I was down Under the ship looking for some Grain
for the Home and to organise it to be Off loaded talking to one
of The crew men as he listened I moved away as he spoke to the
thralls pointing out the grain and ordering it all to Be taken
to the docks.... as I moved to the upper deck I passed the
Captain and spoke with Him for a short while as I watched the
ladds unload the Grain

says to ALL: I glanced as men were hauling the long lines from
the port side of the ship and to the row of stakes, the rope
would be lashed first to one stake then another and finally a
third one and was by far enough to hold the ship once we had 10
lines or so lashed like that. But for now we needed to get these
stakes in, fires had been built earlier where each stake would
go to soften the ground a little, but it was still hard going
and there were 3 of us per stake with mallets and slowly
hammering them in.

says to ALL: The men as well as I even with the chill were
shedding cloaks and tunics as we worked at the stakes, the
steady pounding was almost like battle drums as it echoed across
the cove and inlet and the grunts and effort of men could be
heard as lines were tied off and hauled out towards where we
were drivinf the stakes in.

says to ALL: I spoke to the Captain and asked that he organise
one of the crew to go through the furs on the deck ...pointing
to a huge pile to My right.... I "I would like a selection of
the verr and tubuck pelts taken to the Hall they can be used on
the benches to add some more comfort to the seating and I hate
that they are out in the weather.. so in the Home will keep them
in good use .. also I will need a selection of furrs some from
My selection down below to be taken to My long house... plus a
desk..I think one is in the storage area... some of My personal
thing s But I shall have That packed up ... The Mead that is
down under my cabin I need taken to Arnvid This can be offered
as a Gift to the Men who participate in the Festives and visit I
would love them to taste The Mead It is now old enough to have
them enjoy" the Captain took Notes and I left I knew He would
have This all sorted for Me

says to ALL: I walked on down the plank Holding the rail Only
because of the slipperyness of the plank and then Jumped to the
dock and Moved on over to the Dock Master who was going Jit
crazy at My thralls....."Tal Master of this area.... are My
ladds causing a problem?" he turned and Looked to me and grunted
quietly..."bloody dumb thralls " and smiled ..."they are putting
your grain here I want it there ... as He pointed....mmmm " I
nodded Then the ladds will do as you aske But may they uinload
some more to place There Because I am thinking it will fill all
this area... from where you point to where they have placed the
bags....." I then turned and looked to the ladds..."When this
Man tells you what He expects you will say YES JARL and do the
job... understood This is His dock..." the ladds nodded the Dock
Master smiled and I then went on talking to Him Walking with Him
to Defuse the situation...."I need all the docking ropes
replaced on My ship I will have My Captain speak with you when
he is doing this so you can keep an eye on things if That is How
it usually is done"

says to ALL: I swung the mallet and not tiring for it was no
different than swinging an axe in battle, over and over we
hammered until finally we set the mallets down and grunting and
tossing a bota of mead tween us before looking and moving to
another stake.
There were still many to be pounded in and then we would have to
gather the men and take a line and slowly pull till we righted
the ship to a level state, but for now there were stakes to be
driven in.
The men took heart seeing me there helping as I moved off to the
next stake with the group I was with, two men held the next
stake and one said " High Jarl, hit the stake not my hands or
head" I just grinned to him with that look I get and he just
shook his head laughing, as the three of us started up the
rhythm again and started on this stake.

says to ALL: he was a Tall Man His Beard almost touched His belt
His age I could Not determine... But from the wrinkles on His
Brow he aged well in years... His voice was Deep .. and yes he
was a little gruff.. Just How I liked Torvie Men ... shows a
kind of strength I reckon... and that was a good thing...."We
are having a Ladies day Sir and well There will Be some Lovely
Ladies attending... most should come Via Your dock... Just so
you know.. when you see them moving along here.... I know
message will be posted through out the Home But I wanted to give
you heads Up on this..." he raised a Brow Women?" ..."yes " I
said... Oh and a bond dance so if you have a pretty lass you
would like to dance maybe you could have her place her name on
the list of bonds...."girls " he said ... as I waited for an
answer but none his facial expression and smile sort of let me
know he was interested
... People stop and grin as aithne goes feet up and ass down as
she finds another slick patch of ice on a pathway ...

says to ALL: I kept my swings matched to the other men I was
grouped with as a mallet would hit the stake right as the one
before moved, slowly the stake edged its way into the soil and
sand of the cove and soon we would be able to right the ship and
let the ship wrights and carpenters do their work.
I had noticed some of the ice had broken some in the cove and
inlet and knew it was not as cold as it was a month ago, soon
spring would be fighting for its place up here in the north and
there would be much to be done.
The men had finished lowering the mast of the serpent and were
hauling it off the ship to check it over since we had the ship
out of the water. also men would go over the oar holes and all
of the hull to make sure the ship was sea worthy and ready to
raid again for this was one of our raiding serpents. I went back
to keeping my mind on the swing of the mallet as again and again
the sounds rang across the water and echoing across to the
docks.

that you might like to collar one would never know *s " he
looked to me and spoke in that Gruff voice...."and have My Mater
chase Me all over the Outpost for days on end... I have 8
children and she wants no lass in her furs so that My Dear will
never happen...But I may take time to watch you know what I mean
" I laughed with Him as he told me his story and I nodded ...
"good I will look for you on the Day... you need to try one of
the Hulneth Meads I have...good They say" he spun quickly
hearing that "Aye Lady I would Love that indeed .. I love My
Mead " and with that I held out my hand and shook his and Moved
off... as he walked away tugging on the long beard

says to ALL: I made My way slowly along the path towards The
sounds of Men working down By the sands of the beach... I moved
to the shore and looked down seeing the men working to repair it
seemed some of the serphant ships... I watched and lent back on
a Huge rock to watch

waters much was still iced over still in all That was a beauty
in itself... The day was a good one still cold yet the men wore
no furs but working as hard as they were I was sure it was far
to hot for them.. as I ewatched them Drive the Hammer to the
poles....

says to ALL: I watched as the bonds moved round filling the
Horns for the men and placing bucets of water for them if needed
... they were always Busy working and fussing... it was good to
see... down the beach some Children were gathering shells and
small twigs of seaweeds... dried and washed on the shores.... I
had to smile when one screamed thinking he had caught him self a
Dead fish... I smiled The home was a good one and held Family
and fun a Feeing I had not felt in some time

says to ALL: We moved to the last stake as the other groups did
also, and the rhythm started again, the stake slowly fighting
its way into the earth.
The men were hopping off the ship now and stretching the lines
out to each row of three stakes and laying them there.
The sweat poured off those working for as always a
torvaldslander cared little for the cold and it had warmed much
to us. As we got the last stake driven into place I walked along
each testing them and seeing them seated well into the earth.
I barked orders to the men gathered and 50 men each took up 2
lines.

says to ALL: 5 men split off behind each group of the men, They
would be the ones responsible for lashing the lines to the 3
stakes each for each line, that way the whole burden of the
weight was spread among the 3 stakes instead of just one stake
and would keep the ship in place with out fear of it tipping and
smashing some one.
we paused then and passed a few botas about and let the men get
their wind before orders were yelled out and we all took up the
lines and pulled them taut.
A yell was given and an oar drum began a slow beat. With each
beat we would heave and the creak of the tight lines could be
heard in a sharp zip!!!!!! as we pulled.

says to ALL: one of the wee children saw me and ran quiockly to
me holding out there hands..."merchant Lady Look Gold.... we
have found gold" she screamed ... I stood and bent forward to
look in the wee cupped hands and smiled as I saw shells covered
in sand..."OH MY your mother will be so very happy ..." .. my
hand brushed back the girls locks behind her ear as she smiled
up at my and called to her brother...."Show her the fish " as
the boy ran up the sands and held it by its tail... it was just
bones with dried skin pecked but the guls yet he thought he had
dinner..."Oh My" it stunk as he pushed it closer to me to
inspect ..." and How did you catch this ?" I smiled and didnt
breathe...as the ladd poked it and prodded the fish...."in My
Serphant...that one..." he pointed to the one being repaired...
"Oh you own that One..." he nodded "I am going to be a Big
Torvie Like them one day My Father told me and I will own them
too " I smiled and Nodded "that you will "

says to ALL: The ship could been seen to slowly start to move
our way as some men with long poles stayed near the ship to make
sure it didnt go all the way over our way.
On the starboard side of the ship stakes and lines had already
been set and they slowly let slack out to also help the ship
from over tipping to port.
The drum beat and grunts of 100 straining men could be heard as
we slowly tipped the ship to an upright position. Soon a man
yelled and we held tight as the men lashed the rope to their
stakes as well as the men on the other side of the ship making
their lines tight. Once tied we still held our lines as men ran
and started lashing 5 more lines on the port side here.
soon a cheer was given almost rivaling the sound of the ice
breaking off the glacier as the ship was now in position. I
looked about and nodding to the captain of this ship. " Aye
break out the casks of mead and let the men have a drink for it
is a job well done and we will soon have your ship back in the
thassa."

so many moving as one I stayed to watch and Moved to sit on the
Rock... the two children joined me and Began to fill me in on
what was happening... as children do... the boy lay the fish in
My lapp and stood watching in interest as all the Men gathered
the drums started as the boy pounded in time with the beat...
slow But you could see on the boys face How interested he was in
what was happening.... the small girl sat with me and watched

Lady see the men can do anything " as I smiled and Watched I had
to agree as the small boy lifted His shoulders as if joining in
on what the men were doing .... I just smiled Looking to the
smelly fish I had to watch over
...The men all pause, kaissa pieces in hand as sol saunters by
wiggling her ass ...

says to ALL: I had to laugh as the men cheered even louder as
the captain spoke of the mead and soon the clanggg of horns
being knocked could be heard also as the men drank and the fires
near had driftwood thrown on them as bonds rushed about handing
us all out tunics and cloaks so the men would not grow cold
after all the exertion. I took my tunice and slipping it on and
slipping my axe to the left of my master belt and shrugging the
harness of my long sword into place on my back so the hilt poked
over the right shoulder. My cloak followed as a bond then handed
me a horn and I drank and spoke to the captain of all that
needed doing to get his ship back into the water.

says to ALL: as the men roared the little boy Jumped in the air
shaking His Fist Yelling with Great pride as he Joined in with
the Excitment .. I had to smile This was a young Tiorvie Man in
the making and could watch and Learn from Example I felt pride
as he ran Over and Took the fish and Pulled His sisters
Hair...."COME ON Mum is calling " i wondered How they could Hear
over all the sound But I offered back the fish and Just laffed
