       Ashford Football Club
By: Trig Date: May 14, 2016, 3:46 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Interesting piece on kentish football..... anyone know who is
       running this?
ASHFORD UNITED’S Reserves have changed their name to Ashford
       Football Club.
“We have received Kent County Football Association and Kent
County League recognition as to that of a senior status club
playing football in the Kent County League,” said a club
       statement.
“Our home base will be Homelands Stadium, where we will be
playing our home games on a Saturday with a 6:30pm kick-off on
the new 3G artificial surface. Also, another local venue will be
used for 2:45pm kick offs if needed.
“This news has been heartily received by the Kent County League
and in their opinion the future of many clubs will involve
artificial surfaces which are fully up to a first class
       footballing status.
“Entry to Homelands will be incredibly good value for money with
an entrance rate of £3 (adults), £1 (concessions) and all youths
       under 16 FREE.
“The club has been formed by people from Ashford FOR the people
of Ashford. We aim to achieve Charter Standard Footballing
status inside our first year of formation.
“Our main aim is to be the best senior football club in Ashford.
This will not take place overnight but with community
involvement coupled with unparalleled levels of playing t
raining Ashford Football Club aim to offer soccer training
       second to none.”
Pre-Season training will take place at Homelands Stadium at
20:00 on Tuesday 2 August. To register please send your
details, including your preferred position along with previous
playing experience and address it to Ashford Football Club, c/o
Homelands Stadium, Ashford Road, Kingsnorth, Ashford, Kent TN26
       9NJ.

Firstly welcome to the forum Trig.
One would imagine if it's last year's reserves who have made the
transition then it would also include the management team of
Steve and Stefan. Both of whom have a wealth of experience in
Ashfords non league scene. I wish them all the best.
Interesting that they target being the top team in Ashford. With
a targeted community approach. Seeing how Ashford as a whole is
rather blasé towards the other local club and yet hundreds pour
through the local station to watch London teams every Saturday.
With Kennington seeing a bit of a revival under Mr Scorer, there
is certainly an interesting few years to come in Ashford
       football scene.

Given that this new team will be using the Homelands then
Vbar/Minotaur must approve of this new club. Just hypothesising
here but if approval is more say encouragement is this the start
of a process whereby this new club will once established replace
AUFC as the senior team using Homelands.
I am NOT an apologist for Vbar but in the longer term whichever
is the club using Homelands it needs to have the financial
benefit from the facility (bar/functions/catering/pitch rental)
in order to grow and move up the league.
Unless the current owners of AUFC can wrest back control of
Homelands (anyone any idea of the current state of play on
this?) then this may be the start of the next phase of a
       sustainable club.
Anyone from the new Ashford football club like to comment on
ultimate plans - any chance for this to become a true community
club like Wimbledon, FC United or Darlington.

Oh dear, have the gruesome twosome shot themselves in the foot
again, shutting down the reserves who reform under a different
name with more honourable aims and direction, likely to attract
       local support.
I foresee another legal challenge coming up, with dear old Mr C
trying to claim that he has all rights over the words Ashford,
Football and Club when used together.
Seeing as most legal opinion seems to support the belief that
AUFC don't have a viable case re their battle to regain
ownership of the Homelands, I can easily see them having to hunt
for new premises within a year or so.
Mr Jones has been adamant that he wants football to continue at
the Homelands (should this be renamed the VBar Arena now?), and
should this new venture take off he will be able to finally
remove his nemesis from the place AND achieve that aim.

       Welcome to the forum Aldirati.
I personally don't know the current state of play with regards
to VBar stadium, but seeing that the main backers are throwing
vast sums of money at staying afloat, i would assume the buy
back option will be hard to meet. Unless there is something we
       are all missing.
I don't want to seem to be the go to guy on all matters Ashford
FC, and as such found Steve Rollings contact on a piece from
       "The Hub" (

  HTML http://ashfordunitedfc.com/open-trials-at-homelands).
       Where his
number is listed as 07808066442. No doubt he can answer all
questions on Ashford FC. I also know in the past he has been a
user of forums, so who knows, maybe he will come and join us.

       From facebook:
The reserve team was not utilised at all last season and told
they were not required next season ,so they have formed a new
club ,with an aim to bring quality competition to Ashford's
football scene without the politics ,and the people of Ashford
have already pledged their support to the project .

I monitor developments at Homelands with an ever widening jaw.
The last day escape for ATFC against Chatham in Ryman South and
the eventual dissolution was the final straw. Having been
through Rodney Marsh, John Gurney, Tim Thorogood, the DC/TB
'rescue' (I will always have suspicions around the provenance of
that), the plans, and the DC/TB falling out, I worked out that
I'd been kicked in the fork enough times and washed my hands of
the place. But like an old girlfriend on Facebook, you can't
help but sneak a look every now and then, to see how she's
       doing. What a horror show.
For the record, I have zero doubt that Don wants the best for
the club, but he's just not equipped to provide it; he just
seems to have no grasp on reality, everything has a kernel of
truth, but it gets amplified, aggrandised and aspiration and
ambition morphs into fantasy. What worries me is that some
people, and I think one person in particular, for whom I have an
enormous respect and affection, have been sucked in and blinded
by just wanting to believe that it could all be true. The
endless allusion to court cases with a verdict due on Tuesday
(it's always Tuesday), judgements postponed without explanation,
as an explanation cannot come, due to 'legal reasons', talk of
'fraud squad' involvement that doesn't quite ring true, the dawn
       never quite breaks.
It is bleakly tragic, and the goings on at the now closed forum
were more tragic still, suggesting paranoid delusion.
I don't see how any team playing in green at Homelands can
rehabilitate its image, it's too far gone. People have other
demands on their time, other attractions, many of them cheaper
       than watching football.
I wish the new Ashford FC every success, I hope they can avoid
the madness and any vexatious lawsuits.

The new Ashford FC is now up and running. The club has already
secured sponsorship, has a web page in operation and is
gradually filling posts. Apart from Steve Rollings, Stephanie
Ollier has been chosen as Head Coach, Vince Manell is on the
Board and a certain old AUFC official is the webmaster.
Friendly matches have already been arranged, including a match
against Tankerton FC on the 6th of August.

Still worried about the people gravitating over to the new club,
people like the webmaster, Barham, Curnock and now mushy, with
his whinge about the old forum closing and how he wasn't even
thanked for "trying to run" it. Sorry mushy, but you appear to
have missed out an "i" there, should read ruin it surely, which
of course you succeeded in doing very well, almost single
       handedly.
If the new club is to be a success they need to make sure that
Pease has nothing to do with it whatsoever, as his involvement
will stop many, including myself, from following the club. It
would be bad enough seeing him at games, but if he is involved
with running it then you can definitely count me out.

Absolutely bizarre.....if there is one person that represents
the abject failures of Ashford Town / United, other than the
management, then it is wannabee Mr Mushy..... I would think they
want to attract new supporters not drive them away.... there is
only one thing he cares about - himself so let's hope he is kept
at arms length from anything remotely official at the new club.
