       Find the money

Towards the end of last season DC told anyone, prepared to
listen, that the budget for season 2016/17 would only be £600
per week. This seemed a sensible figure when allied to his
additional comments about retaining the older players (
       e.g.Welford & Booth) supported by youngsters (e.g. Woolley &
Fagg). This strategy now seems to have been abandoned with most
of last seasons squad retained and boosted by signings from
other clubs. This lot will certainly cost more than £600 a
week. So, where will the “extra” money come from?
Our main sponsor is unlikely to commit yet more money and
neither can we expect other sponsors to dig deeper. If DC
thinks this extra money will be supplied by supporters he is in
for a rude awakening. An idea was floated that if Ernie
Warren, or someone similar, could get 100 supporters to put in
£5.00 a week all would be fine but do we really have a hundred
followers that naïve? In addition, we are all aware that a
visit to watch Ashford United at Homelands costs more than at
any other SCEFL ground with the catering and bar receipts now
       going to V Bar.
There are good reputable local business men prepared to invest
in the club but only if DC stands down or grants a share in the
ownership of the club. He will not even consider this option.
Unless there is a secret benefactor waiting in the wings there
appears to be a definite danger of the players not seeing the
money they have obviously been promised.

Why do we think its only DC and supporters that would fund the
players... rumour has it that Lysie is also contributing. Good
for him I say, he's trying to build a career in management so
       its in his interest.
As players cant be formally registered for a while it is all
just talk at present, but great to have their verbal commitment.
The club have to be talking things up and are doing exactly the
right thing to keep a level of interest going.
One for clarification... why would a visit to homelands cost
more than other club's as the catering and bar receipts go to V
Bar, sorry if I'm not following?

To make up the shortfall from the loss of these income streams,
       maybe!!

Eh? Everything has an acceptable price point that people are
willing to pay. V Bar dont strike me as that naive they'd expect
to price tea and coffee to recover their debt? Sorry if I'm
       still missing the point... ???

Yes, think you are still rather missing the point, or being very
obtuse. AUFC might well charge more to compensate for the loss
of revenue from not profiting from the catering at the
Homelands, nothing to do with VBar, who actually only took on
the catering aspect because otherwise it was going to be closed
down by the council for major hygiene breaches.

So the manager is making up the shortfall to help out his
managerial career? Another one falls for the 'chat' or perhaps
thinks it is a wise investment. Either way not sure that this is
the best way to go forward. Does he shout at one of the players
that he isn't worth paying that week and hold some back of his
       money back?

Ahh sorry. You mean that the AUFC will charge a higher admission
fee as there is no other revenue stream (tea and coffee). I
thought the entrance fee are pre-agreed across the SCEFL (£7/8)?
I terms of how manager can determine 'who he pays'... surely he
just funds the regular/stars that he wants to keep. There are a
few that made enough appearances last season to make this a
viable option if that's his choice?

As I understand it Ernie Warren suggested the setting up of a
100 Club with membership of GBP5 per MONTH not per week. If 100
members were attracted that would raise around GBP25oo per year.
The season for payment of wages is 38 weeks so the GBP600 per
week represents just over GBP40 per player, if all are paid
equally, Of course one of the best ways to boost revenue is
through increased attendances. Here I am hopeful. If the SCEFL
fixture list is kind Saturday or Public Holiday games against
Sheppey United, Whitstable and Bearstead, as well as old foes
like Tunbridge Wells, Canterbury City and Crowborough could see
big gates. Increased average attendance of say 30 would bring in
revenue of around GBP5,OOO or so.

How are all the many other costs going to be
       met..........sponsors / benefactor?
By costs I mean, apart from VBAR ground rent, kit & washing,
match officials, insurances, training equipt etc etc

I have to admit that I am not sure if this is true, but there is
a story going around that Canterbury paid their rent up front
last season, and that AUFC now owe much of this money to VBar!!
Whatever the truth in that, it is a fact that the rent from
Canterbury has now been lost to the club, who now have the
additional problem of having to pay rent of their own for the
ground. Of course, there will also be savings from not owning
the ground, but as money was not being spent on maintenance or
obeying health & safety or hygiene laws, I am not sure how great
       a saving this would be.
All this talk about playing budget is all well and good, but
where are the funds going to come from for all the other things.
I don't imagine for one minute that VBar will allow the club to
get behind with the rent, so let's hope that they have the money
in situ to pay for that, insurance, programmes, tax and all
other costs involved in running a football club.
And let's also hope that VBar have managed to convince the beer
company that they are not squatters and are able to get the
delivery that they have paid for and someone connected with the
       club got stopped.
