Mayor
By: Mayor Thames Date: November 9, 2014, 7:53 am
---------------------------------------------------------
The Mayor is essentially responsible for:
•Represent the city and its citizens in public
•Deliver speeches & commendations / other awards to individuals
and facilities
•Operate Public Relations & Public Outreach for the city
•Litigate inter-department affairs
•Sign contracts & new laws
•Suggest new legislation & codes
•Assist in selecting public servants
•Manage Licensing Office & Inspectors
The Mayor's work is supported by his deputy, whom he selects as
his running mate in the election Together they help represent
the city government where needed. Essentially think the Mayor as
a CEO, he helps offer direction but it doesn't mean he can do
whatever he want - he is restricted by his duties and the powers
of the legislature, the City Council.
If the Mayor is away, sick, or on other leave ((30 days or
greater)) the Deputy Mayor will assume all responsibilities, a
councilor of the mayor's choosing will become Deputy Mayor, and
a new alternate councilor will be selected (please see
Legislature for details) - Should the Mayor AND Deputy Mayor
become incapacitated, the Governor's Office will either manage
the Mayor's Office until the next election cycle OR approve an
interim emergency manager for the office.
The mayor is responsible of ensuring proper funding of the
government's entities and programs through registration fees,
licensing fees, and taxes. Should he call for any other
initiatives and actions outside of his duties placed, he may
need legislative approval.
The mayor may also approve contracts. Essentially he can write a
contract or receive one from the legislature. Once he has it he
may commission who will receive the contract or any other needs
within it. He must have all his contracts approved first by the
legislature before moving forward. Contracts are approved in the
same process as regular legislation and follow the legislative
counting process.
The deputy mayor primarily serves as the liaison to the
legislature with the mayor as he holds a vote and right to
discuss topics in the city council. Should he become ill, or
take a leave of absence ((30 days + )) the city council will
vote to replace him or her with another councilor of their
choosing
