       It was about shaping a new Armed Forces, making them
       multipurpose, smaller, more flexible, more professional, better
       armed and with the capacity to carry out immediate responses.
       This new NATO considered the dangers and challenges as
       multifaceted and multidirectional.
       Thus, the old threat from the USSR was replaced by Phone Number

       but without specifically pointing out their nature and adding
       that these challenges could endanger Western strategic
       interests. This determined the need to have Armed Forces with
       different characteristics from those that Western Europe had had

       However, the condition of acting under the demand of
       international organizations was introduced, in clear reference
       to the United Nations Organization ( UN ), but without naming
       it. This can be interpreted in two ways: as a condition to act
       under the UN umbrella or , on the contrary, as an open door to
       do so without its coverage.
