       The attacks against the independent media, in the first place
       against Confidencial, in 2008, and as of 2018, against
       practically all the others, undoubtedly lead us to think about
       the practices of those 80s. It should also be remembered that,
       as of January 1980, different rival parties of the fsln, first
       Trotskyist and Maoist groups and then the so-called "bourgeois"
       parties, saw at the same time how their members were threatened
       with aggression by the Sandinistas, and in some cases, outright
       prohibited. The forms of persecution of rival fsln parties,
       civil society organizations and the Catholic Church are once
       again reminiscent of the methods used during the 1980s.

       judicial setups, as well as slander and
       most abject intimidations. Another very eloquent example is the
       totally disproportionate violence of the police, the fsln and
       their shock groups against the opponents. These actions are

       Alfonso Robelo's Nicaraguan Democratic Movement, tried to
       protest against the control of the revolution by the fslnin the
       early 1980s, or even against the Miskito indigenous people at
       the same time.

       In the same way, some murders of local peasant leaders who
       protested against the canal project or of Miskitos who denounced
       the invasion of their lands by settlers, as well as some cases
       of torture or murder in police stations, are in line with the
       committed 30 years ago against peasants and Indians suspected of
       belonging to the contras, or independent trade unionists who
       rejected control of the new Sandinista unions. The turn taken by
