Endless Skies

I ran.
I could hear it behind me, every step it took vibrated the
ground, every breath it took filled the air with the scent of
death and decay. I ran quickly, trying not to tire myself too
easily, but trying to get away all the same. Trying to get to
the light, the female figure in the distance. She was clad all
in white, but I couldn't get a look at her face. She seemed
familiar, like I had known her forever though, and it puzzled
me.
As I drew closer, I could hear her, saying my name, just as the
thing behind me roared, roared my name, a sound of pure hatred
and primal hunger. It was as if the entire point of it's
existence was to hunt, and kill, and destroy. Me, at the least
it seemed.
I continued running, planting one foot under the other, as the
ground beneath me. I stumbled, and it drew closer. Sometimes
there would be a pause in the shaking, but it would still grow
nearer, until it was above me. With a great heave, it pushed
itself forward, it's black, scaly, armless body falling forward,
and it's mouth opening, showing row upon row of teeth, ready to
be turned red with my blood.
And then she was there, saying my name, and I was awake.
Back in the classroom, back with her, and back with Professor
Owlen staring down at me, a very disappointed look on his face.
"Link," he said, his tone matching his face perfectly, "are you
not getting enough sleep? Too many late nights with friends?" he
asked, eyeing the person to my right.
"Uh, umm, no sir, plenty of sleep!" I said, giving him a smile,
as my cheeks flushed red and betrayed any lie I had just spoken.
I glanced to my right, and noticed Zelda, just as red as I. We
had spent the night before sitting on the school's roof, talking
and just being together for the lulz. She and I had been
inseparable from a early age, and her father had basically taken
me in after my mom and dad died. If I had a girl of my dreams,
she was probably it. We spent a lot of nights out late, and that
was part of the reason I was always asleep. I also like to
sleep, but that's beyond the point.
I sighed, returning my attention to Owlen's Lesson.
"Your bird is the most important partner you could ever
have...." just before I stopped paying attention and began to
doodle.
